You must have never seen a Nextel phone before...

Seriously, the Sanyo 8100 isn't that big. The 5300 is getting there, but there are a few small flips.

I think CMDA requires more computational power than the TDMA (including GSM) phones. But that could be a totally random reason from like three weeks in a wireless tech class.

I was looking to get a new phone pretty soon. Looking at bestbuy it sure seemed that Sprint didn't have much of a selection.

They only had 4 phones
Samsung A660 $50
Samsung VGA Cameraphone $70
Sanyo VM4500 Videophone $200
Nokia 3588i $free

The A660 looked pretty small.

sprint = nicest phones out there without paying $500 a month for a nextel thing :)

I have a A620, sister has a A500, mom has a 8100... we've been though ATT phones, Cingular phones and Verizon phones and it's no comparison, seeing as how those three share a lot of phones.

I have the 8100 and I am a little disappointed with its girth. Next time I buy a phone I will put size before features, as most of the stuff they throw into phones now is gimmicky (cameras are useless, polyphonic ringtones are nice but who cares really)

color is the only thing I really care about and a nice UI -- but other than that, SMALL SMALL SMALL (and flip) :)

most small phones will give you all those features. I use the Siemens SL56. Smallest phone you will ever find, and it has everything I need.

I'm with sprint, and I can't stand their phone selection.
I need to upgrade badly, but I don't like one single phone they have available. :(

Go find better phones from Verizon

And yes, I believe a lot of the size is because the phones still carry analog capability. Personally, I like a phone that has some mass to it. Guys look ghey using tiny tiny cell phones anyway.

My Sanyo SCP-6000 is pretty darn big. ;) I was using this phone for about 2 years. Worked like a champ without all the useless bells and whistles. I decided to upgrade because my battery was dying and it was cheaper to buy a new phone than get a new battery. I'm actually eBaying it right now. :D

Sweet phone:) I was thinking of getting a 6400 for a while. In fact I tried one for a couple of days. Had to go back to the 5300 tho:)

Thanks. I upgraded to a 5500 because I wanted the SMS (whenever Sprint rolls that out in Chicago

), loved the blue color, and I had to stick with a Sanyo - love the menus :).

I wish the new phones would be a bit thinner. They're not as wide, but they're a lot thicker now. My old startac 7868w is only ~0.7" thick with slim battery. The newer phones seem to be close to 1" thick.. :p

Oh yeah, they do have that thin long phone, but it has an antenna that sticks out from the rear of the body, making it thicker :(.
