The question that should be asked... is why are you so offended that people celebrate their culture. Why you see this as so offensive, that you call it 'obsessed' or that they're not proud to be American? What kind of insecurities do you have?

I do find it offensive that someone would be more proud to be from another country than America but live in America.

I oppose the structure of morals, culture, and governments of most of the world.

I find monarchies, restriction of speech, primitive cultures and intellect, and anti-capitalist ways offensive.

Could one say that you find anti-capitalist ways morally offensive?

Because if so:

Question for JLGatsby:

What is the process you go through before you launch one of these threads? Is it a manic thing where you get super-psyched up and rearing for battle? Do you get loud drunk or slam a few dozen Mountain Dews then hit the keyboard? The stamina with which you maintain your position is amazing, the shear output leaves me in awe.

Is this a trick question? JLGatsby answered his own question in his first post...he used the answer several times, yet apparently was unable to realize it when he did. The answer is simple, they are minorities. Being a minority in a country is much different than being the majority, at least with the current attitudes on both sides. While white people feel a sense of belonging to the US, I think many minority groups do not. Let's not forget, until fairly recently, we were pretty much officially against non-whites...and you're a fool if you think those attitudes have gone away completely. That sort of thing brings a sense of being an outsider, even to people who have been here for a long time. Didn't it ever strike anyone as strange that this attitude almost exclusivly comes from people who aren't white-Europeans? Is it just a coincidence?

You have to be in sort of a "zen state" of lunacy. 😀 It's like a martial art.

Being proud of ones culture does not mean they are "proud to be from another country". I'm sure a lot of chinese people came here to escape communist china, but are still proud of their heritage.

Your sarcasm, if that is indeed what you are going for, isn't exactly helping your case😀

That's cool to be proud (for example China) of things like Chinese food or martial arts.

But shouldn't their primary pride be freedom?

If you leave a tyrannical state in search of freedom, you should have freedom pumping through your blood.

I'm most proud of being America, and no I don't mean "a person under the influence of the US government," but as a follower of the principals of our founding fathers. That's what makes you an American, not a passport or a flag.

In fact, I would say no matter what country you live in or are being ruled under, you can still consider yourself an America. Americanism is a philosophy, not a bloodline, and can be adopted by anyone, anywhere.

Why cant I be obsessed with my heritage? This is how America remains diverse and inviting to people of other cultures.

I don't see how someone can feel at "home" in somewhere like China (where tyranny is common), and then be proud to be an American.

America would be better off if most people took pride in being American.

BTW-You can do that and not lose site of your heritage. Yes, it is possible.

I would hate to live in your world, where you must find 99% of it offensive and hateful. And i would hate to live in a world like yours, where it's all one homogeneous society.

So again i ask, what's your insecurity that you see other culture as restriction of speech (lol funny how you say this, when part of the freedom is being able to practice other things), primitive in cultures and intellect? Is it guilt? That you yourself have forgotten your past, so now find it offensive that others haven't? So instead of wallowing in your guilt, you turn it into anger?

I disagree. T

hat's one of the strange ironies of america, comapred to all nations past and present.

It is one of the only nations in existance where civil disobediance is an accepted form of "pride and patriotism."

So what is Americanism? Driving an SUV, eating McDonald's and watching Hollywood movies? Honestly? What should these people be doing? 😕
