Well, Bose products aren't garbage by any means. But on the other hand, other manufactuers make similar or better products for lower prices. Bose is like the Apple of the speaker industry.
No, they aren't nearly that good. Apple is about as good as a PC, but priced way higher.
Edit: I mean that they are usually comparable, performance-wise..one or the other might be slightly faster at any given time, but basically they have similar performance, unlike Bose vs. anything that costs the same.

Bose is nowhere near as good as even mid-level hi-fi, but priced as though it is.

You can spend 500-700 bucks on any Onkyo or even Yamaha HTIB, and it will absolutely SMOKE the Bose Acoustimass system in all facets...other than costing nearly twice as much.

Bose is garbage. Radioshack's RCA $30 speakers sound better than the bose sats. If Bose ever released the specs of their speakers/amps they would be just pathetic. There are some independent reviewers on the web that have recorded what they tested and the specs are just horrible-super high levels of THD and frequency responses that are WAY below what they should be for what they charge. I'll see if I can find the links.

The worst Bose crap I've seen is that $1000 box with two tiny plastic speakers that is supposed to give you "sourround sound". I actually called them to find out the price of that package and was just floored that they were charging $1000 for such garbage.

Rogo

Rogodin nailed it. Take apart the satellite speakers from an Acoustimass system....they are the absolute cheapest crap you've ever seen.

They absolutely do not sound as good as ANY, repeat, ANY comparably-priced 2 or 3-way speakers. It's impossible. And their subs suck, too.
They are boomy, and don't go any lower than an el-cheapo HT sub you can get at Wal Mart or Target....sorry, but it's the truth.

Logitech Computer Speakers (Z-5500 in this case) > Bose Speakers, prove me wrong. Bose as a whole just sells overpriced crap. And I've listened to the magical Bose Triports; I liked the sound and isolation that came from my Shure E2Cs, which were 5 times cheaper, 10 times more. Those $50 Sony noise cancelling headphones you'll find at Target sound just as good as or better than the Triports, and will be one bajillion times more durable, the Triports felt like they were ready to snap in half.

Give me the Shure E4Cs and some nice JBL or Klipsch speakers and I'll be a happy man, fvck Bose.

Heh, I freely admit it now... I bought some Bose speakers back in 1999.... one of the biggest wastes of money, ever.

I get into arguements about the exact same thing every single time with the SAME PEOPLE, bose... These guys I know claim that bose makes the highest quality product and I have to keep reminding them how they're garbage and extremely overpriced. When they ask for other companies that are 'good' most say nothing except one or two who say 'those are UUBER good but REALLY EXPENSIVE' (Highly doubtful) and then they backup their statement saying bose is really good for their price. I just laugh my ass of each and everytime yet frustrated at the same time, I try to remind them that I own some bose equipment and after having it, I'd never buy it again..

Arguing goes on and on and they b1tch about how I should listen to their 'killer bose in car sound system'....

:|

cause if they can afford bose they are probably high on crack cause they can afford that too

Yeah, I would, and I'd raise hell to find some way to return them 😛
Really, its amazing how some people can't accept being told what they bought plain SUCKS. After I bought my GeForce FX 5700 and saw how much better the 9600PRO was, I didn't throw a hissy fit, I said "Oh well", played everything at medium instead of high, and did a bit more research before buying my next card (6800GT).

That's just mean, why did you have to go there? What will all the people who upgraded their car audio system to Bose think now?

I had the S4s. Fine set of multimedia speakers they were 🙂

Sold them to some fat kid when I upgraded, even so, amongst the top multimedia systems to date... maybe even the best.

hmm i like my bose bookshelf speakers. then again i paid $50 for the set =) they work great on my setup in the basement!

but i really do not care what speakers i get. i have a hearing problem (deaf in one ear and half in the other) so it really does not matter. though the setup i have in the living room is pretty good. My wife and a friend got it for me as a gift heh
