who the hell cares about ATI vs. Nvidia as long as the performance to price ratio is good? my first vid card was ATI, a 9600, and I upgraded to an ATI X800. However I was definitely going to get a 6600GT, but i found this X800 for $149 shipped and that was cheaper than any 6600GT for pci-x.

so i must ask. what the hell is wrong with you people? :Q

Why do you want to start a flame war? This thread should be closed and locked.

They are immature and don't recognize that is does not really matter a rat's butt. If it doesn't matter 10 years from now, it is not that important.

I think some people are fanbois just so that they have something to post about.

Its cause people are lazy. Rather than evaluate each product individually, its easier to decide you like a company once and always buy from them.

I don't get this, though. You might be right, but aren't most of us system builders? You can probably tell that I love making and breaking systems by my sig (quad boot).

So for me, having different cards, different everything actually, is fun and part of my compute hobby. How limited would I be if I only used one CPU or GPU manufacturer?

Of course, my main machine will always go with the parts that are MOST compatible with Linux.

I'm not. I had a Geforce 2 then Geforce 4 and now an ATI X700 Pro. Whatever. I think the X700 Pro is still nice. However, I can't wait to see what AVIVO is really all about. I saw the presentation on the ATI web site. It's mind boggling.

Cuz:

1) I own an ATI card
2) I own an NV card
3) I defend my reasons for buying each. For #1 I wanted AIW capabilities, plus it was pretty damn good. For #2, there's nothing to challenge the 7800GT yet, so obviously this is the fastest/best value card I can get for this price.

Oh. and no SM3.0 =P... jkjk.

i'm noticing a pattern . . . the posters most attacking the OP are fanboys.
:Q

:D

EDIT: and "why are some of you such fan-boys?"

why not?

fanboys exist in every aspect of real life [sports, cars, audio, etc.] . . . why not computer HW also? ;)
