I'm a fanboy of my wallet.

video cards I own/have owned: (in no particular order)
VooDoo 5 5500
TNT2 x 2
[R7200] gift
[R8500] gift
[GF3Ti200] gift
GF4Ti4200
R9600XT

(planning to buy a 6800GT AGP when they get a little cheaper)

My wallet really doesn't want me to have a good video card :(

Become a fanboy of the 'hot deals' forum instead ;) . That way you can stay 1 generation behind like the rest of us (not named Rollo), instead of being sadly 2 generations behind. The GF3 Ti and GF4 Ti's were very nice 'budget' cards at the time, something went awry when you upgraded to only a 9600XT. Seek out a good deal on an X800XL or 6800GT - they're out there :) .

Fanboyism is so stupid, but entertaining to read at least. ATi and nVidia need each other to keep prices down, and to be more responsive to consumers.

Cards I've owned:

1. GeForce 2mx - picked up for $80 year 2000.
2. Radeon 9500pro- Deemed the best bang/buck mid range card for $200 at the time of release (2002).
3. Radeon 9800pro- Picked this up Summer 2004 for $200. Also the best bang/buckmid-range card at the time.
4. GeForce 6800GT- The best Bang/Buck high-end card in AGP, purchased late 2004.

Currently waiting for next gen AGP from either company.

I don't see how being a fanboi is such a bad thing. It does create a lot of off-topic discussion and rudeness, but this is our hobby, and it is not so weird to have a favourite company. You can draw an analogy to having a favourite football team, or a favourite car brand etc. It just seems to come natural when you are an enthusiast to have a favourite.

when you spend $400+ each generation of vid cards, you become adamant about defending your purchasing decision.

the problem is the negative connotation of the word 'fanboy.' call someone that and all hell breaks loose.

Isn't it a good idea to format your OS everytime you switch from ATI to NV or vice versa?
So fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your POV) I have had only ATI cards so I've never had to format for that reason.
Right now, if I had a choice of two cards whose only difference was manufacturer, I'd pick the ATI card.

He knows. And it has become a fun joke. But, he generally does not take it way too seriously IMO.

Companies of all kind strive on return costomers or being the perfered company. Its also natural to continue shopping with a company that worked well. I for example perfer Nvidia, everything seems easier and more trouble free with them then ATI. So with the 7800GTX it seemed like a no brainer to get for me. That still didn't stop me from purchasing ATI twice prior to my 7800GTX. I got an 8500 AIW (for features) and a 9800XT (for performance). Its also natural once you have gained favortism for a manufacturer to listen and believe their view point for thier reasons for any change or lack of change in tech. This is one thing I don't do (though I am a man of features so if I upgraded during the last gen I probably would have gone Nvidia for SM3 and such.)

I've owned TNT 2
Geforce
Geforce 2
Geforce 3
ATI 9800 PRO
now an X700 PRO..
I buy what gives me good performance, without breaking the bank
..

now this fanboyism can also be related to all the "Windows 98 sucks" posts..

well.. duh.. Windows 98 isn't so great now that we have Windows XP.. but I am willing to bet that a majority of these people running around screaming about how Windows 98 sucks, were running Windows 98 at the time the O.S. was in its prime..

If you don't understand why people are discussing the differences between two video card makers, then you should not be posting in a computer hardware forum. In fact you probably don't even need to be visiting a computer hardware site.

All the old links state that, but for the life of me, I can't find where I read it saying otherwise.

Mark my words, though, I truly don't think you'll see a new AGP product.

Hexus speculated that there wouldn't be . . . but all i see is speculation . . . that last leaked roadmap [stolen from a slide presentation] showed r520 in AGP.

i believe we will see an AGP card . . . IF they don't, i will not upgrade further than a x850XTPE or 6800u and content myself with a NextGen console for the next couple of years [no loss, from what i also believe as PC gaming will struggle to keep up for that same period] . . . Besides "gaming" there is ZERO reason for me to movie to PCIe [or upgrade from my 3.3Ghz P4] for quite awhile. ;)

i also believe there are thousands of gamers in my position . . . screw ATI and/or nVidia if they don't want my money for a high-end AGP solution then they will get none from me - we have an awesome alternative in the new consoles. . . . :p

but i really believe if they smell money they will bite . . . mark MY words - we WILL see BOTH r520 and 7800GTX in AGP. :Q

edit: just found it . . . ATI?s Next-Gen VPUs to Sport Both AGP 8x and PCI Express x16 - Roadmap.From April, '05
Slides that presumably come from ATI?s confidential roadmap which were leaked into the Internet recently indicate that the company?s forthcoming graphics chips code-named R520, RV530 and RV515 will support both types of interconnection interface ? PCI Express and AGP 8x.
that leaked roadmap - except for the timing of r520's launch which was delayed again - was remarkably accurate [considering].

Why wouldn't we see AGP r520s? . . . the bridge is neither expensive nor difficult to implement . . . ati sure won't sell many xFire systems so they NEED agp $$s [imo]. ;)

Doesn't this topic make you an ATI Fan Boy?

and also isn't it likely to bring up another topic of...

"why are some of you such fan-boys?"

in favor of nvidia?
