i agree, just doing the body and stuff without putting anything into the engine is rice and is ghey, but c'mon, having a car that looks bad ass that runs 11s is sweet.
It's time for remedial vocabulary.

Rice (n) Any car or motorcycle from Japan (yes this it what it means, the fact that you disagree just means you don't know where the phrase comes from)
Rice (v) To modify any external aspect of a car or motorcycle from Japan especially those aspects that imply speed.
Riced (adj) If you rice your rice, it's riced.
Tool (n) Someone who rices

hey correct me if i'm wrong... but by that defination...

a mustang or european can NEVER be a ricer even if you add terrible mods to it right?

also, it is moot to point out if a car is a ricer or not then... because all jap cars are ricer... a dumbass should be able to tell a jap car from other cars.

Main reason? Bench racing.

Most 'ricers' can't accurately estimate thier performance if they tried and rely strictly on manufacturer's claims. (ie: exhaust that can gain 50HP+intake good for 25HP==150HP+75HP makes for a 12 second Civic)

Most of the muscle car crowd can accurately estimate performance and can call BS on the bench racers almost all the time.

Another part of it is what's considered "streetable". Hot rodders will admit that they're car can only be used for short trips (usually due to low gears) but retain all the stuff that's needed for DOT. I've seen ricers that claim they have a 600HP daily driver Integra that features a one piece fiberglass front end (with no lights whatsoever), slicks, and a filled block. I wanna see a cop write a fixit ticket on that one :)

I'm not against ricers. I am against posers who want to *appear* hot, and people who waste huge money to get minimal horsepower gains.

9 cars leave the parking lot - 1 FD RX-7 on MTs, 2 modded '00 Cobras, a '02 Maxima, a juiced and bolt on Civic, a modded GTP, and then 2 rice civics (no engine mods, just altezzas and buzz buzz mufflers).

The 2 rice Civics see everyone going to their car - they must think something tyte is going down. They constantly try and race everyone with traffic around and blare their crap music. All of the real cars get in one lane to turn onto a access road, but the rice Civics can't make it! Oh no! So they cut off 2 of the fast cars throwing hand signs out the window. 3 of the fast cars try to line up, but wait, 1 rice civic has to speed out in front and get in the way(or sometimes both). Finally, everyone is tired of the ricers and make a quick turn into a u-turn lane. The ricers can't make the cut, so they flip on their hazards and drive away.

This is why I hate ricers. They are certfiably retarded. The possess no common sense when it comes to driving, tuning, or racing. They are wannabe's and they get in the way. :|

That is to a T my reason for having my truck... for starters my Blower is not desighned for racing, it's a boost at Idle blower so it's great for the towing I do, and being Twin screw type and self contained it's one of the most reliable types out there also. I have 40,000 Miles on my blower now with no problems whatsoever, not only that but the atmospheric temperature is a lot cooler in a twin screw so the motor stays cooler and has a cooler charge so it's a better air charge and helps with detonation and my motor never gets above 180 degree's so it's great as my daily driver. With all this I have my CAT's and everything it takes to be DOT legal, not only Emissions but also Safety and I can run on pump gas and say I have shy of 600lbs of Torque in a small block daily driver thats got 50,000 Miles on it and did a near perfect compresson test. Those little imports that are pumping out all that power break things all the time, and is why they are not daily driven in most cases and also don't rack up the miles stock imports make.

You could walk around bare naked, with a large arrow on your back pointing down at your ass and the text 'Bubba was here!' above it, and you would look less stupid than 99.9% of the ricers out there.

Didn't muscle heads do the exact same thing in the 70's? Modifying their cars because they thought it was cool? The difference being, ricers modify their car to what they think looks cool. Muscle heads modified there cars to run fast. Why anybody would spend money to make a slow car fast (or look fast) is beyond me. To take Red Dawn's analogy a bit further:

Ricers:
In the end of the day, you're still driving a slow, econocar, POS.

Muscle heads:
In the end of the day, you're still driving a fast, ancient, outdated, POS.

Jesus H Christ, why don't you people get off your high horse and let idiots be idiots - old or young?

Edit: took some inflammatory material out.

When did muscle heads stop? They're still doing it, and to current vehicles. The thing about going for speed is that it takes a good amount of knowledge and skill to make it. You end up with a better knowledge of your car for doing it. And you got something you can feel and do. Some of the fastest cars out there don't look it. I got a friend who had a 377 SB in an El Camino, it didn't look like there was anything special. He'd go around and waste bigblock Cameros. The engine made 440Lb/ft of torque and 580HP (rear wheel, dynoed) and he shifted at 7500 RPM. What made it so hot? The little things that you can't see. Why doesn't he still have it? He had to sell it during a divorce, it's now in a 10 second Nova. My point? You can't always see the speed coming. C&D tested a twin turbo C5 Corvette that Lingenfelter had built, 640HP, it ran 11's (on street tires) and topped out at 214, at the time there was 15 of them roaming the streets, 8 of them opted out of the "Lingenfelter" decals. Can you say "Gotcha"?

The difference is that the muscle heads want the speed, ricers want the appearance of speed.

I'm sure you'd laugh at someone with "MSI", "AthlonXP", a Thermalright SLK-800 HSF, neon, window, and 20 fans on a custom painted case when they had a 240MHz Winchip on a PCChips motherboard too :)

What's worse is the beginner ricers that only have the tailpipe and one or two other mods or the mods don't match the paint because they haven't found the cash to get a paint job.

Out of your entire post, that is the only sentence that had any relevance to my last reply. :)

Muscle heads modify their cars for speed because they like it.
Ricers modify their cars for looks because they like it.

Who cares what you or me or anybody else thinks?

Jesus H Christ, why don't you people get off your high horse and let idiots be idiots - old or young?

Did I not see a "moron" in there before?

;)

at any rate... ricers suck. All supped up imports suck. And here is the reason why:

unless the import is factory made to "do 11s" why bother buying an ECONOMY car and dropping LOADS of cash into it to SQUEEZE out every last horsey from an OVERBURDENED and DESTINED TO BE SHORTLIVED engine? All the while IRRITATING the general community with your OBNOXIOUS, NOISY CAR and driving like MANIACS TRYING TO IMPRESS people that couldn't care less.

Mustangs were built to be fast, same as camaros, vettes, and all the other STYLISH cars of the past, there is quite a difference between the cars of the 60s 70s and the cars of today.

and wth would I care about some car that can "do 11s" ??????? its still noisy as hell, and the kids that drive em love to make sure they are seen, and heard, from a mile down the road.

God I sound so old.

My biggest gripe is the bumble bee sounds that come from all the Civics around here. God that is annoying.

If some dope wants to put a Type-R sticker on his car and claim it adds 5hp(
rolleye.gif
), well as moronic as that may be, I guess it's his right.

Oh, I have nothing against them personally. But when I see one, I keep thinking how wasteful... But then, thinking about it, I bet some people will say the same thing about my dvd collections. :D

Hahaha, yeah!

Cars like the supra/rx7/skyline aren't rice. Those are nice cars and have a sense of style. They are also generally in the price range just our of the ricers grasp to stop those from turning to crap. Rather then finding a supra for 20k they'd rather find a civic for 10k and put 7k in rice kits in it and think they did good.

btw, for all the anti-anti-ricers:

Do "posers" in whatever you enjoy upset you? Because that's what ricers are to hotrodders.

Yea, read my edit. :) Took out some inflammatory text.

<snip>
I'm sorry, but that's all bologne. You said yourself mustangs, camaros, firebirds are meant to go fast - then why compare them to civics?

I know quite a few people that are suping up there little imports, and they know full and well there car isn't a damned hotrod. They are modding there car because they think its cool, not necessarily to race corvettes.

I think the fumes from the gasoline and solvents have damaged there brains. Its like this in any hobby or industy. The originators always thumb their noses at the newcomers.

ricers != hotrodders ... and they don't claim to be.

I hear old muscle cars on drag radials peeling out every now and then outside my office building. Its just as annoying as ricer exhaust tips.
