Why are people so serious about gaming?

this thread is fail. its like me swimming for fun then going to micheal phelps asking him why he takes swimming so serious. When theres some sort of competition its natural for people to want to win.

This thread isn't about being an awesome gamer, it's about trash talking.

Your example should be: You go swimming with Michael Phelps and the whole time he yells derogatory, childish comments at you, and then gives you a wedgie as you climb out of the pool.

Obviously, Michael doesn't do that stuff, and yet he's the greatest swimmer who has ever lived. Amazing huh....you can actually be better at a sport than everybody else without being a ass-clown.

I actually have an honest answer to the original question.

Most of us grew up with video games and have many fond memories and for those susceptible to nostalgia, the act of playing games might be cathartic or therapeutic in some manner. When others threaten our good times and warm fuzzies we get angry and respond in kind. Its all completely emotional but very real.

Truth be told the last time I got a warm fuzzy was when I first walked out of Vault 101 and saw the skyline. That was many years ago.
I think my first warm fuzzy was crossing the bridge in Final Fantasy.

i never said i did. i'm saying the trash talk is just part of MP gaming. being silent has little to do with it, you still have to listen to people bad mouth you and if you can't take it, then your likely too sensitive to be playing such a game.

Its a game, its suppose to be fun, dont get all stressed about it

I usually get below a 1 KD ration but i love the fun i get from it.

Same for sports too, in ice hockey, if were done, i dont care, im having fun!

Clearly you haven't played any games where one can get stressed or haven't played them long enough to care. Games like Diablo II, where one spends dozens.. sometimes hundreds of hours of his life grinding items just to see them stolen by some bastard can really make a person rage... or even cry. I really don't see a difference between this, and having your cell phone or another possession stolen in real life. Often, the monetary value is just about the same too.

In sports it's different but emotions are the same. How would you feel if you trained for an end season game for a long time, spending tons of energy, hurting yourself, pushing yourself. losing sleep, just to have that sweet, sweet victory stolen from you?

Sure, some people can get over thee things easy, but for others it's about respect that they lose of they don't win. Respect from friends and women... It can really hurt. But yes, the right mindset can really help with all of the above, and a lot of people don't have that mindset, and don't have what it takes to develop it. Psychological strength is always more important than physical strength. A hard "asset" to come by.

I'm completely lost.

I used to do my share of trash talking online, but I was like 14-16 when I did. I've been there and done that so I can understand when young teens do it (and their voices are annoying as hell too) but when people who are like 20+ do... they need a life. I'll still drop a few f-bombs here and there when I get into competitive games, but I won't attack others. And it certainly won't cause me to feel like I've lost any respect, because my friends and woman could care less what my K/D ratio is in some online game.

yes there is. you may not like to think of yourself being sensitive, but if your fed up with it, then it bothers you, your being sensitive and emtional about it.

say what ya want, the reality is. what are you going to do about it? you can mute, stop playing, but complaining does nothing.
