Their niche vehicles, but they are way to freaking expensive. Everyone says they are cheap, but once you load up the options -- the price just skyrockets up!!
And the Cooper S is way to expensive for what it is. However I feel hte base model (115hp) isn't too bad. Anyone have the weight of a base Cooper?
Umm, remember that EVERYTHING is expensive up there in CanaDUH!
And why would you load a Cooper S up with options? The only option package you really need is the Sport Package which brings the total price to $21,500:
Includes Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), front fog lamps, 17" x 7" alloy wheels (S-Lite design) with P205/45R17 run-flat all-season tires, Bonnet stripes in white or black (can be deleted), Xenon headlights with auto-leveling and retractable, high intensity power washers.
The Cooper S already comes fully loaded with everything you need. You don't need leather and GPS and all of that other bullsh!t on a car like this.
Also, base curb weights:
Cooper: 2524 lbs
Cooper S: 2678 lbs
MINI Cooper S starts at around $31,000CDN. Way too overpriced, which is why they aren't selling that well to begin with.
Didn't think Cooper was that heavy!! Bah, I'd go old school MINI any day! Especially with a B16 sitting in there....mmmmmm...perfect motor for that car.
Which is why I'm glad I don't live in Canada. Besides, no one really care about you guys anyway when it comes to vehicles. You're good for producing Hondas, Chevys and Chryslers, but that's about it
The reason why the Mini IS a hit here is b/c it's relatively inexpensive, comes loaded with features, is a BMW, has excellent build quality, a solid structure, an excellent safety record, gets good gas mileage and looks like nothing else on the road.
Your missing my point. Most entry-level luxry cars and commuter cars (Camry, Corolla, etc..) are cheaper in Canada compared to the US. However the MINI does not follow that trend. Which is something I don't understand. For example, a Sentra SE-R Spec V comes out to around $15k USD (if you convert the Canadian price), same goes for cars such as Maximas, Camrys, etc...even the G35. They are quite a bit cheaper in Canada compared to the US (once you covernt the dollars). However the MINI breaks that trend, its unappropriately priced high compared to its competition.
Btw, you need us Canucks. Without us you wouldn't have your precious Camry, Odyssey, etc..!!
1) AFAIK, Camrys are not built in Canada. Only in the US.
2) As for pricing. You could easily get a Spec-V for around $15,000 with incentives/rebates here in the US. It's not really that hard. TMV for a Spec-V here in the US is $16,408. There are also two $500 rebates on the vehicle currently.
3) The Cooper isn't an entry level anything. It's its own brand. It's small sports car. Just b/c it's priced low doesn't necesarily make it "entry level." I certainly wouldn't call a Miata or MR2 Spyder entry level vehicles.
1) I'm pretty sure the Camry is build in Cambridge, ONT. It's for Japan and Canada, not the States I guess. But I do know for a fact that Camry's sold in Canada are built in Canada.
2) I thought the SE-R was $20k US MRSP (I'm talking MRSP..the actual price varys upon dealership and negiotating prowess)? The Mazdaspeed Protege is
$21k US right? Well its around 27k CDN here which is ~17k USD. There are other examples in forms of the G35, Maxima, Altima, Accord, Civic (and SiR), etc..
3) Isn't the MINI Cooper (115hp model) an entry level commuter car? Or is it a niche vehicle? I look at it as a commuter vehicle, however I could have a different perception than the rest. In which case, it would account for its inflated price over here. Either way, MINI Canada better reduce the price soon, cause people aren't buying it over here. Its sitting on the lots right now.
4) I wish the Miata was cheaper, which reminds me..I'm gonna make a thread on somethign related to that. And finalyl, we sadly don't get the MR2 Sypder over here.
