You can't get it outside of a few places where caju trees are grown.

What we do is we leave the trees in a stationary orbit around the sun and when we whip on back around next year we'll find that they've grown faster because the time-dilation effect of our movement made us experience time slower.

You probably know this, but peanuts aren't really a nut. They grow underground, so they're easy to deal with on a large scale.

my aunt had 8 HUGE pecan trees and grew peanuts. pecans you go out and pick them off the ground after they fall off the tree and peanuts you go out and pluck them out of the ground like carrots. easy

Freezing them should work. It's a small gamble if it doesn't. Separate it into 1# bags.

Nut prices often fluctuate a lot depending how you buy them. Even at Walmart and other stores like Schnucks. Look for things like superbowl sales and stuff like that. Demand goes up around typical party seasons like christmas and New years. Maybe what you are seeing now are newer nuts that have not been sitting in some warehouse. Some unshelled nuts may be cheaper.

And because they're small and soft, they don't take much work to crack...

I live in the middle of California's "almond country."

They're relatively labor intensive, but not like in years past.

Nowadays, instead of having to "knock" the nuts off the tree with a pole, they have equipment that shakes the tree...

Then, instead of having to hand rake them into rows, they have sweepers to do that:

The sweeper dumps them onto a conveyor belt that loads them into trucks/trailers where they're taken to the processing plant where the hulls are removed and depending on the species, they're either run through and de-shelled, or cleaned and sent for packaging in the shell. (there are hard shell varieties like you buy for cracking...or soft-shell varieties that are sold in bulk packaging.

BTW, around here, they're "al-monds" while they're on the tree...but "a-monds" once they're on the ground...they've "shaken the "L" out of them.

Most nuts are grown in only a handful of regions. Cashews are from Brazil, Thailand(i think ) and india therefore they are all IMPORTED. As you know, globalization has taken hold and their is every increasing demand for food commodities and those with limited supply experience price increases.
