I think the food prices are the ones that really need to be adjusted. Supposedly thats what theaters make most of their money from though. I pay 5.25 to get into a movie, anytime. I think thats OK, 5 dollars for a popcorn? 3 for a drink? Sh!t like that is too high.

cargo pants = theatres worst nightmare..

$65 for two popcorns? :Q most theatres i goto have that ~$7-8 big tub of popcorn with free refill.

$30 worth of soda would have me getting up every 10 min to take a leak. i thought living in the bay area was expensive..

lol I do that. I get those Whopper chocolate malt from Walmart and dump it into my women's purses (or my own pocket if I'm going w/ a bunch of guys) and I just order the $3.50 coke there.

at those prices.. how exactly do they stay in business??? that would be sweet if we had one around here. $1 matinee, $3 full price admission. how are the prices on snacks/drinks? just like any other theatre.?

Then to rent the thing I have to pay over $4 from blockbuster. There are NO small stores in my area that rent movies that I know of. Everything is a chain. $4+ for a movie rental is one thing and I can live with it, but theaters are making more and more money from year to year. Why do people keep paying $30/evening with such frequency? It seems a shame to me. If people would realize that $30 can instead cover a movie rental and junk food 3 nights in a row perhaps movie ticket prices wouldn't continue to rise.

What a crappy rant I just did. Oh well.

amateur...everyone knows u bring ur own popcorn + drinks (in a backpack) :)

cokes and popcorn and candy are just like other theatres... $5 for large popcorn, $3.50 for large coke, $3-5 for candy... i don't feel that bad paying that much when i only paid $1 to see a movie tho

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that we have a $1 theatre in my town that has stadium seeting, reclining chairs, and surround sound. They run movies that have been out a while. Since I don't mind waiting, my wife and I can go to the movies for $2 when we bring our own snacks. :D

What's with all the sissy boys here? "I hid it in her purse..." Ummm, I usually just walk in with an armload of candy and soda, and then grin stupidly when they give me a strange look. :D

I tried that at the local theater I go to already. :D They made me throw my drink away before I came into the theater so now I just use the wife's purse.

Movies prices are rising because people keep paying them. Probably some anti-trust issues mixed in there too.

Movie ticket prices will continue to rise as long as theater patrons continue to pay. It is largely a self-correcting problem, though. If prices rise high enough, too many people will choose some other form of entertainment and attendance will drop. Same thing with concert tickets. As long as rabid fans are willing to fork over the cash, the ticket prices will continue to rise.

Actually, as soon as they can figure out a good way to do things digitally, the prices will probably go down.

I agree its ridiculous how much it costs to go to the movies. I remember when 5 bucks was normal. Now its like 8 something. And on top of that the movies have gotten worse for the most part! Only a few must-sees (like LOTR) come out each year that are worth paying so much for.

That's why I don't go. I could probably count on one hand the number of movies I saw at the theatre last year.

I am simply too damn cheap to spend $16 for two of us to go to a theatre, risk having crappy sound, and annoying people around us, when I could spend that same exact amount 3-6 months later when it comes out on DVD and watch it in the comfort of my own home at my leisure and actually have something(the dvd) to show for my $$.

But I don't even do that anymore. Instead of buying, I just rent it for a buck and be done with it.

I simply do not have the need to watch watch a movie as soon as it comes out. It doesn't bust my balls to wait. There are a very select handful of movies that I will actually pay the $$ to watch on the bigscreen simply because that is the way they were meant to be watched.

Star Wars, LOTR, and many war movies are those types of movies. Maid In Manhatten, Sweet Home Alabama, Austin Powers, and Dude Where's My Car do not qualify as "big screen worthy".

bah! Yeh, I'm I'm a scrooge.

You're the devil who has access to a place that rents like 5 movies for 5 days for 5 bucks on Mondays too. Don't you think I forgot about that. I so wish there was a little grubby corner store locally run by a guy who barely speaks english and rents out movies for $2.50.

I don't go to theaters anymore. I just buy the DVD I want to see, and have movie nights with family and/or friends.

No theater hassles, no renting hassles. Just pure 57" or 65" big screen beauty with 7.1 THX surround.

I get a better picture and sound here than at any of the crappy theaters in this little sh!tberg.

And best of all the movie can stop when I want to pee or get more munchies.
