Why are movie prices still rising? Stop it!

Seriously though I can't even go to movies anymore unless I really want to see one. After 2 X $8.50 (more if you live in a nicer area), and then $65 for two popcorns and a drink I'm paying like $30 just for two people to see a movie. It's ridiculous. Then to rent the thing I have to pay over $4 from blockbuster. There are NO small stores in my area that rent movies that I know of. Everything is a chain. $4+ for a movie rental is one thing and I can live with it, but theaters are making more and more money from year to year. Why do people keep paying $30/evening with such frequency? It seems a shame to me. If people would realize that $30 can instead cover a movie rental and junk food 3 nights in a row perhaps movie ticket prices wouldn't continue to rise.

What a crappy rant I just did. Oh well.

Yep I stopped going to movies (except for SW and LoTR) a long time ago, unless I have a free coupon. We rent most movies at our house. We get most of our rentals from BB free or at a 50% discount thanks to Discover card deals 🙂 Instead of giving the money to the theatres, we bought a 64" TV and use a dolby 5.1 system for sound. It's just about as good as the theatre, and we make our own popcorn. Nothing like watching movies on the big screen in your jammies lying on the couch, yo!

Yep we have a growing setup too, and no stupid dinks behind me talking either!

The only problem I don't find more than 3-4 new releases to watch per month. $20 is too expensive for 3-4 movies when BB discounts are fairly easy to get. Though if you wanted to watch a bunch of old movies you hadn't seen, Netflix could be pretty valuable. But watching 4-5 movies a month (to get your $20 value) means you are going to run out of choices fairly soon.

And student discounts, if you're under 30 and still have your ID card!

LOL! Never thought about it before but for some reason I had it in my head that I was the only one who did that. (obviously not though) 😀

This is the BEST rant-in-disguise-as-a-non-rant in a long time. 🙂 I agree 100%, Skoorbie.

I guess people don't see any other things to do for entertainment.
There are many other forms of entertainment out there, but most of them require more than just
sitting on your ass. So people are willing to pay the price increase cause otherwise they would have to get off
their ass and do something...

Did they start blaming piracy yet ? Why not ? 😕

Because that's not the cause of it.

the least they could do is give out free snack coupons every week like Century Theatres
The reason snacks are so expensive is because that's where the theater makes most of its money.

Most of your ticket goes to the studio.

your telling me.. $6.20 for a small soda + junior popcorn.. :Q

but $6 matinee in addition to free stuff makes it bearable.. i rarely go to the movies at night because 9 times out of 10, i dont think it's worth full price.

yea no f'ing sh|t, movie tickets are damn freakin' high, I remember when a movie ticket with student ID was less than $5, now when i go to the movies, present my student ID for that special 5 cent discount, its like 7-8 bucks. Student discount takes away like a buck or so, this is a joke, i no longer go to the movies unless its a must-see-type of movie.

danny~!

Save yourself $65 and buy from Walmart/Target the movie candy and sneak it in. Saves a hell of alot of money that way.

And screw you to those who say its theft, screwing the theater and so forth.
