The Moon Pie factory is like 10 minutes from here. I don't know exactly where, but I always hear about it.

supply and demand. besides, why not just buy moon pies, they are just as good, and you can get them in bulk.

For the ones that have nuts, that adds to the cost.

There are always very dense - difficult to eat two at one sitting.

TWO?! I have a hard enough time eating 1/4th of one! I only like the lotus paste one, and I have to pick the egg out too. Gotta have some tea nearby to eat one of them.

Some of them have ham inside.

If you're trying to eat two, you're crazy. People usually just cut it up and each a few pieces each.

The most expensive ones are usually because they're hand made with fancy ingredients.

Buy the freshly made ones from bakery, dummy. $40 moon cake gift boxes are made in china.

Annual and overdone packaging is my guess. The basic egg yolk ones taste great, and some people actually know how to make them at home pretty decently. Otherwise, wait for the 50% off sale after the 'Moon Festival'.

The 'new age' stuff with green/pink exteriors, or with all the different nuts under the moon are the most expensive. They usually come in overdone boxes that get thrown away in a week anyways too.

anything that has just paste (either the dark lotus ones, or the other lighter colored ones) are good. the ones with nuts or meat are gross! but i can do with or without the egg yolk... it's so good with tea. but i can eat maybe one half at a time... i knew the guy that imported these (he also imported the garden brand cookies/crackers), and every year we'd get a crapload of boxes.. i seriously was eating moon cakes for months.. so delicious!
