A person's view of beauty is generally shaped by what they see all of their lives. That's why quite a lot of people will say "I don't like X group of people. They just don't do it for me." However, if you grow up around the same kind of people, no matter how good a person looks they will always look just like everyone else.
When somebody is of mixed background there is enough of the familiar so that they can fit your vision of beauty, but enough of a difference that they stand out, become exotic.
