When somebody is of mixed background there is enough of the familiar so that they can fit your vision of beauty, but enough of a difference that they stand out, become exotic.

VERY good point... actually I bet you hit the nail on the head!

What precisely is "melado" (is that Spanish?), I've not heard that term before.

Cheers,
PCM

Well looking up the def:

melado

Melada \Me*la"da\, Melado \Me*la"do\, n. [Sp., prop. p. p. of melar to sugar, candy, fr. L. mel honey. See Molasses.] A mixture of sugar and molasses; crude sugar as it comes from the pans without being drained.

Hence why Id guess it would be preceived as a racial slur to some.
ActuallY I find it rather "cute" on some level.

maybe, just maybe in order for someone outside of your own race to want to have a kid with you, you will have to be pretty attractive enough that this person is willing to take a chance on you. So when you have 2 attractive people together, chances are, their kids will be too. just a guess.

Are you perhaps referring to mulatto children?

mu·lat·to
n. pl. mu·lat·tos or mu·lat·toes
A person having one white and one Black parent. See Usage Note at octoroon.
A person of mixed white and Black ancestry.

Not always the case. From my obervations, black guys tend to have some pretty homly looking asian wives/etc. Yet, their kids are usually very attractive.

This + This = Not a good combination

LOL! :D

But yea, mixed race people are attractive.

My soon to be fiancee is half greek, half korean and she is hot to say the least.

One of my buddies is half korean, half white and he is pretty good looking (I say this as a straight man)

Either they are very attractive or not very attractive, seems like no middle ground

No, I'm 1/4 Irish, 1/4 Scotch (so I'm half scotch/irish)... then 1/8 english, 1/8 french, 1/8 portugese, 1/8 cherokee indian. At least that is how I understood it from my high school genealogy thing.
