Messenger bags are nice when you're going through an airport because you are continually taking stuff out and putting it away at the various checkpoints. Other than that I prefer a backpack.

Here's the thing. If you weigh down the messenger bag with a lot of weight, won't it throw off your gait and possibly lead to physiological problems after prolonged use? A backpack keeps everything centered and probably would be more comfortable over the long run.

Actually mine is a laptop bag. And it is the last bag I will ever have to own. It will last a lifetime.

That's a good looking bag, and the price is on par with what you'd pay for a good briefcase. If I needed a nice briefcase, I'd get something like that rather than the "executive" style.

Yeah I do a bit of traveling for work. Unlike an executive style bag, my bag looks better the more it gets used. Scratches and scuffs don't make it look like ass. My bag looks better today than it did when I purchased it.

after about 3 years of business travel, i've come to the conclusion that messenger bags, aka man bags aka satchels are extremely convenient in carrying all your stuff without filling up your pockets or carrying around a bulky backpack.

when i'm at home i get crap from my friends for using it, why?

on top of that, they look pretty fashionable and fabulous;)... discuss?
you need to find new friends. they still making "ur gay" jokes?

$600 leather bags like the ones up there are gay. Tacticool messenger bags from Hazard4 are cool. That or a Maxpedition Gearslinger.

I have a laptop messenger bag now... nothing special. I've never heard anyone say that it "looks gay," but even then... fuck them. I carry it because it's convenient and large.

I do feel weird wearing a backpack though... I haven't worn one regularly since high school

Jack Bauer does not agree....

Yeah, that's a nice messenger bag, IMO. I've always thought of "man satchels" as being entirely different...More purse-like or certainly less "rugged" looking.

I have one of those bags!

OP: it's definitely not considered gay in the uk, i have a few and carried one all around America... Although I didn't see many guys with them, in the uk the vast majority of guys who carry a bag have a messenger bag...

Because, no matter what you call it, you're still carrying a purse.

I've never heard of this. You must come from somewhere like the east where people are queer.
