Why are gas prices still so high? Didn't we win?

what was the war about again? Why is gas still $2+ a gallon in my area?
doesn't take me more than $20 to fill up my tank, but if/when I get a new car I'm sure it'll cost me $40-$60 a fill up!

#end rant

edit: the "Didn't we win?" part is only semi-serious btw

Iraq isn't pumping out much oil yet, and Iraq is still part of OPEC once it hits prewar levels.

Plan on buying an H2 or something? Why would it cost double or triple to fill a tank in a new car?

Let it stay up.. Heck.. let it even rise alittle more. I don't drive on the weekday, scarcely on the weekend now. I use mass stransit. Plus there are hot chicks on the train and bus to converse with ;) :)

Even though I have an Astro it's good that I'm keeping my mileage low and making trips on it when It's only for an emergency or to go somewhere far (Long Island/New Jersey)

hopefully (I wish) a G35 coupe or a A4 3.0 (older model). 15-20 gallon fill up $2.29 (around the price for premium) ~ $45

Hmm? :disgust: War about oil? Here we go again! Don't make we whip out that L word again! ;)

My car get between 35-40 MPG, I drive 6 miles to work and 6 miles back. It takes me weeks to empty a tank of gas. My wife's car can empty a tank in own weekend back and forth to her work.

I need a nuclear powered car. Maybe Mr. Fusion :)

Good for you! All the justification to keep raising gas prices... Too bad there's no public transit system in Rural America.

You both realize that you end up paying the costs of increasing gas prices by increased bus fares.

Hmmm maybe if the legislative branch would think of a way to construct a Mass Transit Association they would get the funds, resources, buses, trains, engineers, employees to deploy a public transit system.

And since rural america LOOOOVES Dubya Bush... this would be the most opportune time for him to reclaim the 3 million jobs that have been lost since he has been in office... just an idea :p (but alas Bush's plan it destroy rain forest, drill in alaska, get more oil for cars... some bright leader we have  )

my gf lives 100 miles away and I visit her every weekend... that's an extra fill up every week (plus my 20 mile round trip per day to work).

Well, adjust your car preferences to something that doesn't require premium if you don't want to pay that much at the pump.

I love it how people b!tch about the price of gas when, adjusted for inflation, it probably should be well above $2/gallon for regular unleaded.

Right now, where I live it's about $1.39/gallon. I remember paying about that much almost 20 years ago!

It goes up...it goes down.

If your monthly budget is that tight that a $20/mo. swing in fuel costs could make or break you, you need to find other ways to lower expenses....or get a better paying (or 2nd) job.

Gas for my car is hardly something I complain about. What turns my crank is when utility companies double or triple heating costs in a single year.

I remember a couple years ago people went from having $150/mth heating bills in the winter to upwards of $500-$600 a month for heating. Now that is harsh.

Well they those people must have had a variable rate for the heating bill. My parents and uncles have a fixed rate for the heating charges, sure some years its above the variable, but they don't have to worry about next year and the year after. They save money (marginal however) but its less of a headache.

$500-$600 Whoa! What kind of fuel do they burn? Last year my highest bill was $300. I keep it warm and I have a gas fireplace. I'm not going to complain about my heating bill ever again.

<-- had predicted before the war that going to Iraq would raise the price of gas, not lower it like so many thought then (feel free to search)

Many utility companies around here do not offer "averaged" billing. Three years ago we had one of the coldest winters in decades and it just so happended that natural gas & heating oil prices went sky high for whatever reasons. We had over two weeks straight of below zero temperatures and very nasty winds. There were many people that couldn't afford the bills and there were lots of fundraising events and charities performed to help people pay their heating costs.

It was pretty bad.
