that's 4 large diet cherry cokes.

sheesh, i'm trying to count my calories, ya know...

I think is is a real convenience. It actually saves me money. I don't take $20.00 out of my account to spend $3.75 at Mcdonald's. I spend what I need and I don't have to worry about having cash on hand.

I love it!

I read this from wsj. because they want you to use it on everyday spending. folks used to only use cc on large purchase. now, they want you to use it on every little small purchases too.

last time, I forgot my money clip at home. luckily, I have a discover to go card tagged along with my carkey. so I went to mcdicks for some foods.

They aren't participating.

But they sell spaghetti...and blankets.

 to anyone who gets it.

don't think anyone still has addressed the OP's question if McD's is eating the cost of the CC fees that are charged by Mastercard/Visa etc...

I don't think the prices of the food went up so it has to be coming from somewhere else...

They eat the cost, but its obviously not hurting them, as McDonalds, which owns 30% of all McDonalds + the land under all McDonalds, posted huge profits last quarter.

ill try to address the OP's question. McD does eat the cost of CC fees, but there has been a historical trend that CC users spend more than their cash counterparts. that coupled with more sales because of CC acceptance can boost profits if sales were stagnant with cash only purchases. and stores that accept amex do so because amex users tend to spend more than visa/mc in certain markets even though amex fees are higher than visa/mc.

My McD's charges $.50 to use a CC/Debit. That's huge considering I only spend $2-3 max. So I go to Carls Jr. No charge.

probably the surcharge is just for debit. i think surcharge for credit card purchases is illegal throughout the US

A surcharge being illegal is a common misconception; however, Visa, MC, Discover, AmEx, et al., do not allow it per agreement with the businesses that accept their cards.
