Why are you a Toyota fanboy?

If I had the money, I'd be a GT-R fanboy, a Z4 fanboy, or a California Fanboy, a Gran Turismo fan boy etc.

If Anand and his writers had money, what would he use? Oh wait he does have tons of money and uses Apple.

I'm just curious, because a lot of the articles mention that Anand in particular apparently uses all Apple stuff for his computer and phone.

I had a nice long post typed out, then realized you really don't give a damn, and that this is just another BS thread where you want to bash Apple products.

Enjoy your nerd rage :awe:

You have a zillion posts bashing Apple products, and scream bloody murder about the iPhone 4, now this thread, why do you even give a fuck?

Do you hate people that have nicer cars than you too?

I'll keep saying it:

Haters gonna hate.

The more you're on top, the more jealousy and envy that crawls out of the woodwork.

Cygwin is not even close to OS X in terms of getting a good CLI. There's so many work-arounds and concessions you have to make (like /cygdrive/c) that it's not the same experience at all.

OS X + Macports is best of both worlds.

No, not according to the almighty G.A. it isn't, it's identical. He will run circles around me with it in fact. Apparently, well if he's right anyways Cygwin might even be better, or else how could he use it to run circles around me? It can't be from experience, because I've been on computers many years before the fucker was even born. He obviously knows something we both don't.

I'm not arguing that OS X doesn't have a powerful command line, just refuting the argument that Windows doesn't have that capability. And if a simple extra download or two is enough to bother you then I'm guessing you're not enough of a power user to care about CLI.

Ok, can you point me at a REAL terminal applicationfor windows without installing cygwin plus most of gnome or kde to get a real terminal application? XTerm and putty are freaking horrible to use. They are almost as bad as cmd.exe. Beyond just a terminal, having a built in Xwindows server is also a god send in my job. Windows X servers tend to be flakey imho.

It's not just having bash, it's having a powerful, useful terminal app to use bash in.

I was a windows user. Then I became a full time linux user. Then I moved to notebooks. When I realized that linux wasn't the greatest on notebooks (that is no longer the case today) I moved to mac as it had all the advantages of linux with none of the notebook weaknesses (wireless drivers, poor power management, etc). In addition to those quick advantages, I quickly learned that on OSX I spend more time doing work with my computer and less time working on my computer. I also found tools I feel are better written and supported then equivalent linux tools (and in many cases have no windows equivalent imho). I also gained access to non-free tools such as adobe products that made my job a lot easier then it was on linux.

The only thing I missed was gaming when I moved to linux. I still miss it on OSX, but with steam for OSX, most of the games I want to play have mac versions. I still have a windows virtual machine for one single purpose and that is running the vcenter client.

I love the macbook pro hardware. I love OSX. I can run all those applications I would need from the linux world, plus I get a ton of great OSX software. That said I'm not a fan of apple. I hate what they have done with the iphone, and I'm sure it is only a matter of time before they bring that shit into OSX and drive me back to linux.

I developed under Windows for years and it was always a real pain in the arse. You install cygwin, then stuff like Apache, etc. In the end you get an environment that's "sort of" *nix but not quite. All sorts of quirks and limitations. Not to mention that actual terminal is of the Windows 95 DOS prompt legacy.

OS X out of the box makes it easy with Apache and most of the tools pre-installed. Install MacPorts and you have nearly every tool you could ask for under Linux ready to install, on-demand and easy to update. Developing under OS X is a pleasure. Under Windows, only Windows programming is productive.

I wonder if it's all circumstantial and innocent. I recall a time, in the long ago, when AT decided to do more Apple coverage. So I wonder if Anand decided then to start using those Products in order to be familiar with them?

If so, he may very well have discovered that they work just fine for what he needs a PC for. Between having the experience and having his Needs met, why wouldn't he use them?(assuming original postulation is accurate)

Fucking haters. M$ 4 L1F3.

Apple can go suck a ....

But seriosuly, I PITY THE FOOL who buys apple desktops/laptops - overpriced, poor OS and terrible, terrible keyboards.

If you want to tout OS X, remember its a copy of UNIX, so I don't understand why you just don't go use Ubuntu or something................

Because Ubuntu is a hobbled together POS and OS X is a complete package.

The fun of using Linux is managing the whole OS process by yourself. Windows is a complete package as well. A Very Good One. Many important software packages are written for Windows - MS Office (the most important piece of software in the world), MS Visual Studio, etc.

Unix systems excel at the server level, but at an end-user level, Windows reigns supreme.

The gap between Windows and Apple has closed significantly recently, so this argument is largely moot. But, nevertheless, Windows is a more complete and better operating system than Apple. There is alot of flexibility in Windows as well.

Only fanboys would think otherwise. Any competent software engineer can work well with all operating systems.

This is a matter of opinion. Only fanboys would think otherwise.
