LOL there has been millions of pages written on that subject from the beginning but most commonly it's Applications (games) and cost of HW.

I think it's the cost of hardware that really throws it over the edge.

Probably. But on this board we like to roll our own, after all that's a purpose of anandtech to evaluate HW and BYO, so it's only natural a closed up system with no overclocking won't play much here.

I have three theories on this:

1) Anand is wealthy now, so he can afford Apple products instead of building his own PC's.

2) He's also married now, so PC gaming probably isn't as big of a hobby for him anymore. Come to think of it, most game developers are focusing on consoles nowadays, so there isn't as much of a point for a dedicated gaming PC.

3) He's noticing that he's losing readers to Engadget, who caters to Apple fanboys. He's just trying to get some of these readers back.

I like these three reasons.

The other ones espoused in this thread, are fairly unconvincing.

Not everyone likes their hands to be held when using a computer. For that simple reason I could never get an OS X-based machine. Windows is far more open and has more going for it than Apple's computers.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

The beautiful thing about OSX is it can be simple enough for a non computer person to use. But in capable hands more powerful than Windows. For any CLI freak like myself OSX satisfies in a way windows could never.

Terminal >>>>>>>>> CMD
That's retarded. I bet I could BASH circles around your candy ass and I use Windows for almost anything. Cygwin + PuTTy motherfucker.

I'm guessing that they must like the aesthetic qualities of the products, OS X, ease of use, or a combination of all three. I personally own a late-2007 Macbook Pro and iPhone 3G. I have my reasons, but I will not be purchasing any more Apple products once these have either broken or become too outdated.

BASH is the default shell in OS X (Terminal being the command line application).

Oooops.
Umm.... What's your point? Because my point is I know my way around BASH and the fact that I use Windows doesn't stop me taking full advantage of my CLI knowledge.

Of course I'm nerdy, we're talking about command lines in operating systems. What the fuck did you expect? This is a tech forum. A bastion of nerds.

Why would anyone call Anand an Apple fanboy? He was strictly x86 for years and years and only got into Macs relatively recently. If he enjoys Apple products why should anyone care? He's not forcing you to use one.

I don't care for Apple products either; don't own a single one, never have, and don't plan to in the future. I've used them many times, starting in the mid 80s. They just aren't my thing. Doesn't make me an Apple anti-fanboy anymore than is makes Anand a fanboy.

You could also use Mac OS X with your CLI knowledge. That was his point if I am correct. Meaning, OS X is easy to use if you want it to be, but it can also be highly adaptable to the needs of more advanced users (X11/Terminal) without any extra downloads/install necessary (unlike Windows).
