Yeah, that's all Apple did -- gather a bunch of existing technologies.

Funny how Microsoft's touch screen device at the time the iPhone came out was a 200 pound table.

This is what I thought when "Apple" patents were posted shortly after Steve's death. Nothing was original about them - they just borrowed existing ideas, made slight changes [instead of a square edge - it's rounded] and patented it as unique.

I think that's probably #1 on the list of things to do since Steve's death - do everything possible to kill off Android.

they did a lot more than that. if you read past the summary they did a lot of calibration in their software to detect skin, thickness of the glass and a lot of other engineering to get a product to market

I payed $0 for a Galaxy S2 with a two year contract, an iPhone 4s would have cost me $200.

And after 2 years you'd be able to sell your iPhone 4S used for at least $200 and most likely more.

Apple items hold their value incredibly well.

The Samsung will most likely be falling apart, and even if it weren't it will be worth nothing in 2 years.

Keep telling yourself that. I sold a non-smart phone Samsung Rogue for $85 on ebay after 2 years of use.

"You think you're cool because you buy a $500 phone with a picture of a fruit on it. Well guess what? They cost eight bucks to make and I pee on every one.

Wait a minute... Am I supposed to feel sorry for Apple because other people are copying their ideas? Come on... They're the most profitable technology company on the planet right now!

This isn't 1990 all over again, where Microsoft is trying to put Apple out of business. Apple has plenty of money in the bank for R&D, and can out innovate their competition without using an army of lawyers. Honestly, I think that the added competition is motivating Apple to push harder to improve their products.

i'm still trying to find these mythical smart phones that cost less than an iphone

I effectively paid $58 ($82 + tax - $20 prepaid card) for an LG Optimus T, no contract, no monthly bill. Is it as good as an iPhone? No, and that's fine with me. Is it as expensive as an iPhone? No, and that's also fine with me. Can I sell it in two years for as much as a used iPhone? No, and again, that's fine with me. Am I satisfied with it? Yes.

Can it phone, send and receive sms as well as connect to the internet? Yes. What makes a Iphone or any other phone better?

Well, although it isn't necessary for a phone, the camera is included so should be compared, and isn't as good as any iPhone camera. The battery life also isn't as good and total RAM is less. Also, I haven't compared call quality, but wouldn't be surprised if the iPhone was again better. Is the iPhone worth ~$2300 more (total cost over 2 years) to me, no.

I dont think I've ever seen an iPhone more than a year old without a crack across the screen

The IT guy where I work actually cut his ear on his shattered iPhone 3GS screen because it was too expensive to replace. He used it for about 6 months waiting for his At&T upgrade special.

"Expensive to replace?!"

iPhone parts are cheaper than any other phone due to economies of scale. iPhone 4 requires the LCD to be replaced if the glass shatters, so the whole thing including LCD, glass, and touch digitizer, can be replaced for $30.

and existing customers aren't eligible for these discounts

Yes they are, I was already an At&t customer when I got that deal.

Funny my previous phone was a Samsung Captivate and it still looks brand new after more than a year of use. One of my coworkers bought an iPhone 4 the week before I got the Captivate and his phone has serious network issues and the vibration motor is dying.

I don't really care what my phone are worth after 2 years anyways since I never bother with selling them.

sounds more like he was just a moron.

if it were that sharp a simple screen film would have solved the issue.

mr IT guy should know how to replace his screen anyways. or a local shop can do it for cheap...

I meant the iPhone was expensive to replace.

If you want to tell me the screen is cheap, go right ahead. That doesnt change the fact the iPhone is overpriced AND fragile. If he's expected to replace his scren once a year then it's even more overpriced

I own a Canon EOS 20. Trust me the Iphones camera is shit

Doesn't Apple replace an iPhone for $150 if you bring it in the store? I think it's $100 for two times with Apple Care+.

Ultimately, you really can't have butterfingers with some phones. Even if I owned an Android phone, I wouldn't want to see what happened if I dropped it. 😛

How did he shatter the screen anyway? My 3GS is nearly 3 years old; it has never been in a case, and only has minor scratches on the back.
