Cool. I really wanted to download 1.8 GB to patch data already on my computer. Really glad I have a fast connection, can't imagine how annoyed others were having to do such a huge patch with no obvious benefits. I personally find the cutscenes annoying at either resolution.

Yea, I hate it when developers fix games.

Yeah. Just move cover to cover, find full cover if you can, and throw lots and lots of explosives.

The "run & gun" ability is really useful for capturing. If I can (injuries) I bring two assaults, a heavy and a sniper on each mission.

You can't use run & gun for capturing unfortunately, you can only shoot your gun after dashing. That is why I make support guys with the extra 3 movement point ability my stun guy.

Does the tutorial 'end' at any point? Or do I just start playing the game? I cannot tell. I keep waiting for it to tell me to start an actual game.

I've never played it all the way through, but I think it just seamlessly merges into the actual game. Once everything's unlocked it's over.

Sectopods are too smart, well armed and well armoured for their own good. Pretty much the only safe way to take one down is with squad sight snipers... and the original xcom sectopods were never this scary! If you come across one inside a ship... those things will absolutely tear you a new one if you can't snipe them.

Not that I'd want it any other way.

Can't wait. I'm playing on normal, I have two Colonel-ranked snipers with plasma sniper rifles and double-tap. My whole squad has Titan Armor w/Plasma Rifles/Heavy Plasma and my Alloy SHIV is Plasma as well. I got my first taste of "Elite Mutons" not too long ago. Looked scary, both died in one shot from each of my snipers. 😛

Game's getting a little easy. Going to bump it up to classic once I beat this.

I agree. I haven't tried a SHIV yet, but I have two COL Snipers with Double Tap and they waste everything. My Assault guy I throw out front to take damage and finish anything off. I am playing normal though.

It is much harder on classic. Snipers still do pretty good damage, but you miss more and the enemies are harder. I just did a terror mission with 4 cyberdisks and 8 chrysalids.

Not many civilians made it. Lost 2 squadies and all my majors and colonels are in sick bay 😛

Even if you win all your missions the geo game is trickier as well, need to get lots of engineers early to build uplinks so you can manage the panic.

All I can say is WOW!!.just started playing last night and so far the game is awesome, best game i have played since Skyrim...

Question though, what is multiplayer all about?

Haven't played it, but I hear it's 1v1 aliens vs humans. So you could get to actually control alien forces.

After the first 4 missions and a few research objectives it pretty much merges into the real game. Though I skipped the tutorial on my 2nd game so I can focus on launching satellites and other research.

Well I found out one thing I really do NOT like in the new X-COM. If a soldier goes down, you cannot pick up their items like in the first game. Guy with the medkit goes down? Tough luck. Guy with the arc thrower knocked out? Forget it.

Watching a guy bleed out under your feet because you can't pick up his med-kit is infuriating.

LOL, in Apocalypse, my (then) GF was playing and she actually picked up one of her fallen soldiers and put him into the backpack of another soldier. When they got back to base, the solder no longer appeared anywhere. She hypothesized that he got stuck in a locker somewhere and left to die.

I noticed the same, and it is forcing me to bring two of med kits and arc throwers to guarantee their use. Sucks to waste that spot on those items on so many members.

I run one support medic fully skilled for healing.. I don't have a problem keeping her alive.

take a look at your tactics. I would run 2 heavies, support medic, sniper. until you can get 5. then add another sniper at 6 add an assault. move slow and overwatch. make sure to give the heavies halo targeting and have them fire/suppress before you take your sniper shots.

I prefer to see it as forcing me to be that much more tactical. You can have redundant medics/arc throwers and sacrifice versatility, or have one of each and be extra careful with them. Makes sense to me.

Sorry, I kinda see it as a lazy conceit. I mean, let's face it, it just makes no sense. If the dude is lying dead on the ground at my feet, so is his grenade. I should be able to pick that up.

Why not just have the 'v' key interact with downed soldiers as well as doors and bombs and such? Seems so simple.

It could kind of go either way in my opinion. Who is to say that said grenade wasn't damaged in the kill shot. Or isn't not so obviously available on the smoking corpse that someone getting shot at would have time to grab it? or so covered in gore that reasonable people aren't going to want to pick it up and throw it.

I take your point in that a lot of tactical RPG style games allow characters to loot corpses of fallen comrades in the middle of combat, but really? How probable is that.

From the developers stance, they probably figured that this was just another aspect of limited resources. Tactically, deal with it.

TBH, I could cope if it was anything but the the medkit and the guy is bleeding out. That's just frustrating.
