Who's playing Minecraft?

I logged onto the AT server last night and staked out my own little mine. I don't know if this is consistent in MP, but I felt that resources are a LOT easier to find. Within 2 min of mining I stumbled into this huge underground cave full of iron, coal, etc. A few more minutes of mining and I hit the bottom of the map and immediately found diamond and some red stone.

In my SP game I have three treasure chests full of red stone, but I find little of anything else.

Anyway, when I spawned it was on this glass / torch platform. Is that the center of AT's world on that server? Where do I go to see other people's stuff?

Happy to be aboard!

That is the spawn point. To see everyones stuff (that isn't on the spawn point) follow the sky-bridge. It goes over the ocean by the spawn point. I am actually almost done making my tunnel to the spawn point now; I just have to figure out the best way to get accross the ocean. (I am thinking bridge)

Sweet, thanks! I'll check it out tonight.

I believe I made the spawn point directly north of the old spawn point, so if you travel due south for a few minutes you should hit the initial buildings that were made on the server and the skybridge.

Aha! I'll find my way around. Currently I'm just interested in mining the crap out of the area that I'm in, finding a buttload of sand and building some really cool glass structures.

I hope that Notch someday makes minecarts go faster so we could connect everything through something like HSR.

I realize that my plan for a new structure was a little much, so I am scaling it back a little, and going to build a miniature version first. If that turns out well, I will continue on the large one. I may have to dig a big hole for it to work though, since the max height is only 128 blocks tall. Maybe I will ask Mag to blow a big hole in the earth with dynomite, although far away from any existing structures. (but close to the sky bridge, so you can see the thing I am going to make)

I'm pretty sure the new server software will not allow me to use TNT properly. I tried yesterday and it just disappeared and did not destroy anything. "Anti-Griefing". However, you can't really find the materials to make TNT in game without having a Mod give it to you. So perhaps we don't need any server software?

Damn! I jumped on the AT server last night finally to play multi for the first time. I was getting some program crashes then the server went down.

Today I went to play again and same deal. First time I was playing for 10-15 minutes till it crashed. Now everytime it crashes in 2 minutes. Always with a Java NullPointerException. 🙁

I updated my Catalyst to the newest 10.9, added Minecraft.exe to the Windows Firewall exceptions, and rolled my Opteron 165 back to stock. I've never had any instability with my overclock but troubleshooting any crash it's a must to return to stock.

Looks like I'm out of options. 🙁 Guess I'll have to muck around in singleplayer till it gets fixed.

edit: My Java runtime is probably very outdated. I'll update that and try.

Argh. Still crashes within a minute or two. 🙁 Singleplayer is fine though.

In my single player game, I started a mine from sea level down. Just straight down for a while, then curve, then curve more, then when I hit bedrock I started branching straight in different directions. Found a lot of that redstone crap but not much iron, gold, or diamond. The couple blocks I did find I start to clear and pull away a block with lava above it. Lava starts piling in to my mine tunnel so I blocked it off. Then worked a little up and go above it to collect a bucket of it and try to get to the good blocks.

I think it's pretty risky to be digging up like that because you never know when you'll pull out a block with lava above! Probably better to start with a cave and dig down instead.

Set your view distance to normal. On Far it'll crash constantly.

Thanks. That did it. Well until it seems the server crashed a minute ago?

I can't believe how crazy huge everything people have created. Did they really mine and build that stuff by hand? I mean like a big dirt structure would take a long ass time, but a monster glass structure would take forever! To melt the sand into glass is very time consuming.

So it makes the house I've been doing in single player seem worthless, yet even that took me quite a few hours (though that included a deep mine to find good stuff). It's only a 1 story wooden house with stone basement and I am just getting a fireplace in.

Anyway I thought of something cool to build on the AT server that will be big enough to be noticed but not terribly difficult to build.

I want a fireplace so I thought a lava one would be better than a log because it can also incinerate stuff. So I collected a bucket of lava and put it in a stone pit the size of one block. I took out a tree seedling to incinerate and it just made the lava disappear? I thought you could make these.

Built by hand, yes, but I'm pretty sure that a lot of the materials for some of those structures were given by admins. So far I've used only materials I've mined/smelted/crafted myself, but if I want to do any bigger plans than what I'm doing so far I'll likely need the help of an admin 😉

Now that I can give myself items, I think the mining-smelting-crafting-building I've been doing so far is even more fulfilling of an accomplishment. 'The journey is the reward', etc...

Updated Java on the server, was told by the Hey0 server dev that's my problem with crashing. Hopefully that'll resolve the crashing issue.

Haven't played this game, but saw this story...pretty awesome.

"After much virtual blood, sweat and tears (we assume), the intrepid architect has created a fully-functional 16-bit arithmetic logic unit (ALU) within the game."

http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=26702

"By using a combustible material - called redstone - he has been able to build a simple computer capable of adding or subtracting numbers and giving a binary output - albeit quite slowly. The impressive project is far from over, though. His next step is to build memory, before attempting to make the machine capable of running 'Hack' code."

You used to but it seems to being going poof now so a bit buggy or might not had worked on multi yet since last I checked pools are a issue..

Well, the machine I've been running the server on has bad RAM, just when I figure out the software issue, which was an outdated Java component, it starts throwing memory related BSODs.

Going to go to Microcenter tomorrow and try to pick up some replacement memory. Right now I'm looking at picking up a 2GB stick of DDR2 for around $40, I'd like to pick up 2 sticks, but I can't really justify that to my wife at this point. A few people have offered to kick up a few bucks for my internet costs, which there aren't any since my job pays for it, but if anyone would like to gift over $4-$5 through Paypal to go towards a 2nd stick of RAM to put the server at 4GB, that would be awesome. PM me if you would like to and I'll let you know my Paypal address.

Either way, 2 or 4GB in tow, the dedicated server should be back up and running tomorrow night at some point. For now, it's running on my primary gaming rig, which is fine for now.

Anyway, going to bed, nite.

If anyone wants to, or has time, i'd be willing to sponsor a free VPS for a Server in Chicago...if ya'll want to make a little AT minecraft community.

I just don't have time to setup/maintain one.

Awesome, the draw distance was why I crashed online all the time. Now I'm on the server and no sign of crashing yet. Thanks for the tip! 🙂
