Who's playing Minecraft?

Based on the website and my time playing single player, SMP is the last thing that is truly keeping it in an Alpha state. It just isn't done yet.

The game looks simple, but now that I've read about what red stone does and how mine carts work its fairly complicated.

My only complaints/wishes for it so far:
At least some sort of rudimentary gravity with regards to supported structures. This applies to buildings, but the most obvious example is chopping the trunk of a tree out the tree just floats in the air. I'm not asking for a realistic physics simulation of the tree falling over, but just floating in the sky is goofy. I guess other people have brought this up before.

More mobs, more fauna and interactions with the world. I like the idea of collecting resources from them, but they mostly just wait around for the player to show up. It'd be cool if they were out doing their own things. Spiders hunting prey, zombies run to caves at night instead of just burning up and then respawning the next night. Maybe a race of goblins or something that ran from the player and his structures but would mine/build on their own? Yeah, these are all probably huge projects.

Performance isn't what it should be. Not a big complaint for me with a 4850 but from reading around the game chugs on old and integrated chipsets. The game isn't about the graphics, but with the poly count and resolution of textures where it is, it seems like it would be less demanding than it is. It'd just be nice if this ran smooth on crappy netbooks...or alternatively had better graphics.

Is anyone else having issues connecting to their servers today?

I noticed minecraft.net is down, so maybe thats why... I can't connect to my local server, either.

Minecraft seems to be, unfortunately, a concept in the wrong hands. A small team from a seasoned development studio could potentially create a game with at least graphics from the last decade, and with full physics simulation, faster than this guy probably will.

And seeing his success, no doubt another studio has already started on it.

Wrong.

IMHO the gfx are beautiful as is.

I agree with Bryf50. Minecraft is a great game partly because of it's simplistic approach. The greatness of a game is not determined by its graphic prowess but by it's ability to keep you entertained in an enjoyable fashion. It reminds me of the endless fun I had playing with Lego bricks as a child.

Long live Minecraft 😀

I wonder how many other people, like me, keep visiting this thread and are on the verge of giving this game a go. I haven't tried it... yet =)

Wow, that sounds like a horrible game. I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole.

I did. Then, after 6 hours of Civ 5 on Friday night I gave in and bought Minecraft. Then my weekend disappeared. I do intend to play Civ5 some more eventually. On the upside, my castle is coming on really well.

Join...us...!

Then log onto the AT server. We've made some sick stuff.

The game is definately worth 12 bucks. If not more. I was taken aback when I first started with its graphics, but they are very fluid and actually make sense once you start playing.

I think 95% of the people that play are hopelessly addicted and the other 5% are like WTF are these guys smokin.

try setting your view distance to normal instead of far

Since there are so many structures at the Spawn point, the game crashes when you set it to a far view distance. Once you get several miles from the Spawn, you will be able to use the longest view distance again.

It is amazing how built up the AT server is. It is almost like a thriving city. There are so many humungus and impressive structures. The colleseum is probably the coolest, but there are a lot of really cool buildings throughout.

I have been building a mine the last couple of days. I am just going down and exploring, looking for more minerals. I think the next thing I will do is make a glass floor over this river of lava I found at the bottom of my cave. The river is a straight shot about 10 blocks wide, and it goes beyond the view distance.

I'm actually considering building a small drab building that you spawn into. To prevent this from happening.

good idea

in the future, when minecarts are fixed, i think we should band together to create a minecart station there with routes to every player's building/area

would make it easier to go help out another player with something, or to just check out a new construction 😀

I'm sure there will be a hub there. The Skybridge is going to be the main highway I think. There will be a main hub at spawn and at pig race maze hehe.

The minecarts are kind of clunky in how they work. I wish they attached together instead of just pushing each other. Plus, the way to change directions with a powered one just doesn't work that well when you want to ride them.

I need more iron ore because I've been eating it up like crazy building a track from my castle to other cave structures.
