Who's happy with their 8KHA+?

ANd I'd like ot hear if you're unhappy too, I'm thinking of buying to replace my POS K7S5A. Please also provide systems spec's (My own will use an Athlon 1.4, with 512M of PC2100 DDR, a Geforce 3 (non Ti) and an Audigy X-Gamer) Thanks!

I am totally happy with my new EPoX board! I just got an AthlonXP 1800, 768MB of RAM, GeForce3 Ti, with a SoundBlaster Audigy card. (So far) everything has been working great. No hardware incompatibilities, no problems with the memory or BIOS...Just a pretty fast machine.

Of course, anything may seem fast to me since the upgrade if from using a much older computer.

No isseus booting you're Gefore Ti? Reportedly there were some that's why I ask, but if not then right on bro!

Not happy. Bought new MB, CPU, MB, and HDD to upgrade my system to:
Lian Li PC-60 Case w/ 350W PS
EPOX 8KHA+
Athlon XP 1700+
Thermalrite Cooler
Crucial 256MB DDR
80GB 7.2K WD hard drive
40GB Maxtor hard drive
GeForce 2 GTS Video

Received it last Wednesday, super excited to upgrade system and tried to do so on Saturday. Board layout was nice but I plugged everything in, turned on the power and got the now infamous FF display on the LED. I tried reseating the CPU and RAM a few times.

Was not at all impressed with EPOX Tech Support - you have to send an e-mail with your problem and they didn't get back to me until 2 days later. Fortunately I went to this forum to see if any others were having similar problems. On this forum and the AMDMB.com forum, it appears this board has a pretty high initial failure rate. One forum had a poll of users where only 66% said they had no problems with the board.

I don't have the time for such nonsense. EPOX enthusiasts will likely chastise me for having a negative opinion of this board but I think I've bought my first and last EPOX board. I thought I'd save some money by buying it and am happy for those who are ecstatic about it's performance but it's not for me. I RMA'd it yesterday and ordered a KR7A in its stead.

Just my $.02.

SDG,

Rich

LeatherNeck~ Other than the 'FF' display while booting, did you encounter any specific problems? Which 350W PSU are you using?

BTW, while my past experience with Abit boards usually resulted in a high level of performance, I also had more than my share of rma's with them, so good luck (really)! Most mobo mfrs don't practice quality assurance anymore, so IMHO there's a fair chance that any board you buy will be faulty (the best advice I can give anyone buying a mobo is to buy from a place with a 'no-hassle' return/exchange policy)!

I couldn't be more pleased with mine 😀

Ordered one of the earlier boards (around 10/20/01) with an L Bios and had initial problems getting it to boot. Swapped out my puny 300W Enlight for a 400W Antec (which I had already ordered) that actually did my board justice and I've been raging along ever since. Getting crazy scores and benchies (8700 3dmark2k1) and in my games, and have a very solid OC going (11.5*150=1725). I haven't even upgraded or changed my BIOS (10/5) BIOS. Also have my XP unlocked, but I can't get anything over 150FSB and keep my settings to turbo/4-way interleave/cas2. I may try the beta BIOS and try to drop the multi and up the FSB, but I haven't had time lately and my system screams......

The rest of my rig is in my sig.

PS I'm pretty sure 99.9% of people running an 8KHA+ are suffering from the "infamous FF LED" problem. My guess is that its your PSU not being able to feed this board enough juice. Just my .02 cents.

The FF on your LED *not* a problem. It simply means your system is booting. This is normal.

<< Just don't use an Enermax power supply >>

Hmm look at my sig you will see I`ve the Enermax 431w and Epox 8KHA+ working 100% fine 🙂,the 5v is 4.98v on average.

hehe that's cuz you're a freak Mem!!! 😉 Everyone knows Enermax sux azz with Epox!!! :sarcasm: hehe j/k haven't heard about any issues with the 8KHA+ and Enermax's, I think that was an 8K7A issue.

Fury190.....I was being sarcastic, I think everyone who actually has a running 8KHA+ board knows this....especially you considering you posted a thread with that "infamous issue."

My 8KHA+ is great.

sys specs:
Duron 750@1050 (7.5*140)
Visiontek Geforce2 GTS-V
Hell, just click the link in my sig.

I'm happy with my setup, rock solid as well.

Athlon XP 1600+
512MB PC2100 Crucial
GeForce2 Pro 64MB

...rest is in my sig, under the rig, link.

Enermax's will be ok with an 8kha+ as long as you don't do much overclocking. My system is VERY lightly loaded in terms of the amount of devices I have hooked up and my +5 has dipped to 4.78 under full load.

At AmdMb and Hardocp you'll see a lot of people having trouble with this combo and overclocking.

Very happy, I did alot of research and Epox seemed the clear winner when it came to price/performance&reliability

AMD 1600xp @ x10.5/146 1.53ghz w/ PAL8045 38c idle =)
Epox 8kha+ (N)
512DDR Crucial
Asus8200 ti200 @ 220/500
GTXP
Seagate 60gb 7200rpm Barracuda ATA IV
Antech 1030b 300w

edit: moved to x10.5 / 143 , anything higher than 143 and my win xp login time suffers

mine has been very stable. And I dont use a he-man power supply. Its rather crap actually, but it came with my case.

I was tryign to decide whether to go with the low cost high performance of the 8KHA+ or to spend a little more and go with the KR7A with RAID and after consulting with a good firend I think I'll go with the Abit board. I'm expecting it before Friday and am looking forward to a welcome reprisal of the headaches from my ECS K7S5A, I've tried so hard ot make this baord work but nothing ever seems to work!

i love my 8kha+. very stable and very fast. i have had no problems with mine. i can't seem to soft boot at anything higher than 146, but that is really no big deal. once you set the fsb and leave it, the cold boot works fine. plus, my comp is on 24/7 anyways. no hardware conflicts so i am very pleased. will be getting sb audigy for xmas, so hopefully that will work great as well. i really can't praise this board enough. everyone should own one...🙂

8KHA+:

board 1: corrupted BIOS during flashing: RAM
board 2: short circuited, killed the CPU as well in the process: RAM
board 3: could not post beyond "C1": RAM (on the vendor test table, hey that was fun!)
board 4: now working

All cases are documneted by the replacing vendor, with product serial numbers.

The 8KHA+ is like as Ferrari, very fast....if it is working. 🙂 If you look in other forums like amdmb.com or overclockers.com you will find that this board has certainly a few problems more than what is usual.

way!! pleased.............easiest setup i,ve done in a long time.......1.4 tbird.......2- 256 crucial 2100 ram.....geforce 2 ultra....on board sound.....very quick board....
edit......the small problem this board does have.....(no warm reboot when o/ced)....is very minor and there is a bios fix ....if its a big enough hassle...

Re Epox support.

If you send your questions to the Taiwan office, (on the pulldown box select Asia when it asks where you live) you'll get a reply in less than 5 minutes. I did it yesterday, the guy did all sorts of tests for me and it was instant email responses. English isn't perfect, but they know their sh!t.
