Who's getting a 1080ti?

You don't need many details about the card to know if you are getting one or not. You know this game well enough by now. It will be close to Titan X in performance and will cost around $7-800. It will OC pretty good to around 2ghz or a bit more. If so, are you getting one? Getting two?
I will have to take a good look at TitanX performance on games I play that don't support SLI to determine If I'll be getting a 1080ti or not. I just haven't bothered to really think about it. If SLI worked, a 1080ti would be out of the question.
But SLI doesn't work. It doesn't work with DOOM, it doesn't work with Gears 4, it doesn't work with Forza Horizon 3, it doesn't work with the new COD game (which I am shockingly slightly interested in), and while it works with BF1, it has major issues, like FPS tanking if Geforce Experience share is enabled.
So, ditching all these issues and getting better performance in these games is appealing to me. I won't pay $800 though, so if that's the cost, no, I'm not getting one.

My 980ti is still performing just fine. I don't have any urge to get something newer right now because of that. I was much more interested in getting a good AIB RX480 for my second computer for work than any of the 10 series cards.

I think I'll sit it out until the the x80ti Volta with HBM comes out. That sounds like a good place to jump.

I'm gonna wait and see how Vega stacks up, but I'll be buying one of the two. Want to try out 4k so I'll need the juice

If you are getting a card past ~GTX 1080 speed, make sure you have an overclocked Intel CPU. I am CPU limited in many titles, even at 4k60 on my 1070. I was thinking about your CPU thread, Moonbogg, where you talk about if a hugely powerful CPU was just released. I would easily consider a Titan XP simply because of how often I am limited in single threaded performance.

4k120hz is soon going to be a reality (expensive), but the 1080 ti will be able to power it, albeit at medium/high settings without AA.

I will consider the 1080Ti but I think I'd be better off waiting for the next series of nvidia cards. I don't care about 4K @ 120Hz but I do care about 4K @ 60 Hz. Which is doable with my 1080 currently and will only get better as more powerful cards release. Hell I would even consider going back to AMD if they released a card that could power a 4K @ 60Hz screen better than my 1080.

Me! The 1080 ti's performance is the sweet spot for 1440p 144hz gaming right now. I'll be upgrading from a ROG laptop so it'll be a glorious upgrade and the timing is impeccable with Kaby Lake. I can't wait for next year.

KL shouldn't offer any improvement over SL in gaming. Even from Haswell, it's only a small increase in gaming performance.

I agree. But I'm upgrading from a laptop, so it'll make a big difference. I'll go for a desktop KL next year.

Probably. Be glad to be rid of SLI that's for sure. Just hope it isn't over $800. Even that sounds stupid high though. Have the money to spare, but tough buying something that will be worth half that in a few months.

But then I think about how much time spent gaming lately, and not being satisfied with performance/settings in a lot of games. So hopefully it will be worth the absurd prices.

With a G-Sync panel rated to 30 FPS at the minimum, it's going to be a while before for me. I don't see any game in the next year or so that will drop me below 30 FPS outside of CPU bottlenecks.

G-Sync may have killed my yearly update habit. Haha.

If the 1080 Ti is superior to the Titan X, then I'll be selling the Titan X for the Ti. If not, then I'll be waiting for Volta (or a fully enabled GP102 Titan X).

I might get it, though I'm not 100% committed at this point. My GTX 1080 has surpassed my expectations by totally dominating gaming at 2K resolution, which is what I currently game at. I don't expect to upgrade my monitor to 4K until next year when there are better monitors that support higher refresh rates and HDR. By then Volta will be available, so I might just decide to wait for that..

I probably will downgrade once a 1080Ti ACX card is available. I can't stand the Titan X Pascal Hybrid (aka 1080 Hybrid kit) just like I couldn't stand the Titan X Maxwell Hybrid cooling kit. The thing makes my entire case rumble. Sure it's not any louder during gaming, but it's just too damn loud at idle.

I just returned my evga 1080 gtx ftw to Amazon (bought it in July) due to whole mess that's currently going on with certain board components going up in smoke. Not sure if my concern was valid but I didn't want to take chances.

Now I'm having trouble finding a comparably priced 1080 that is as good as the evga ftw. Any recommendations would be great (air cooled and good overclocker). I could just get a different evga card and step up to the Ti if it comes out in the step up window.

Or I might just wait for the Ti since the normal 1080 isn't enough at 1440p/165hz imo (even with gsync). Do we have an idea on the release date?

I believe evga had to offer a refund to them because of the issues they had.

No release date yet but the best guess is when vega gets close to release date so about 6 months.

Yes, I had used the card in my desktop since I purchased it in July. I'm pretty sure EVGA instructed amazon to not take returns over this issue and to let EVGA handle it through RMA. I'm glad amazon was nice enough to let me return it (despite EVGA's instructions) for a full refund, they even provided the return shipping label.

I was thinking about it, but I don't really play any graphically intense games, so the 980Ti will be fine for a while. Maybe once I get a 4K HDR 120Hz screen I'll upgrade.
