As someone else said, I would have to say Lance Armstrong as he was completely unstoppable and in all the years nobody old or new could get close to him. And I think he had more reserves to lean on in he needed. He was a machine. Maybe the cancer therapy made him superhuman somehow but he was just way to good.
My vote goes to Federer. He is very dominant. I almost don't care about his matches as it will always be a slaughter. Nadal is the only one I have seen challenge Rodger and even win. Amazing how much better one can be on such a fixed and relatively small tennis court.
Sampras was good, but he was always lacked with Aggasi and they kept switching to the top spot. Federer is uncontested #1, and Nadal is #2, at least when he plays.
Tiger is good, and golf is very different and some of his puts seem borderline impossible, But he plays a fixed sport only against himself (and maybe the weather) and they don't go blind to a course, they study it extensively and have information through each hole. The skill (or luck) is in hitting a good strait drive/shot with correct distance consistently and the put which tiger has, but so do others.
I am surprised that more players and even women don't play better. I would say Tiger's dominance is more that everyone else sucks just as bad and not that Tiger is perfect.
Tiger competes against men nearly twice his age, so I am surprised he cannot completely dominate or someone younger has not come along yet to dominate him.
Federer is the real deal and nobody can deny that he is #1 in tennis. What will be even more amazing is to see the next great player who will be able to dominate Federer. Federer and also Nadal are new breed of tennis player and hopefully there is more to come in the future.
