I was raised in a Christian home and my parents allowed my sister and I to go out and trick or treat. They let us make our own decisions about it and wether it was an "evil" holiday. The holiday itself is not evil if you just let kids dress up and go around trick or treating. Hell as a kid my parents encouraged me to go as part of the "thearpy" for my stutter, it got me out and interacting with nore people. Though I have to say if I had kids now I don't think I would let them go, there are to many wackos out there, when I was a kid the worse you had to worry about was some older kid stealing your bag.

Christians have taken all the fun out of everything.
Christians don't care if you go or not.
Repressed Victorians, masquerading as Christians, take the fun and theology out of everything.

I think halloween is stupid, but I don't see how it's evil.

Some people here seem to think that Santa is evil because he takes away from Jesus. Morons.

A lot of Fundies like my sister won't let their little brats go trick or treating. I guess they don't want their little darlings to be confused by myths that are different than the myths they believe. It really doesn't matter as her kids are little monsters year round any way. The last thing they need is massive doses of sugar.

Living in an apartment complex with a LOT of children around, it's just the one day a year where they stop screaming/hitting/swearing/littering/leaving their toys on my doorstep/disposing of candy wrappers in my plants and whatnot, and knock on the door and ask for candy.

Less than two weeks until we move to a much quieter place. :D

halloween is no way evil imo. halloween is just a night for kids to go out and have fun, and halloween can be used as a theme for fancy dress parties (always wanted to go to a halloween party, but living in england it is not celebrated enough)
alot of english people i meet regard halloween as an 'american' holiday, which for some reason is a bad thing. yet they support bonfire night (which i'm ot against, i think it's just as fun), where a dummy of guy forks is held over a huge pile wood, then set on fire, then fireworks set off

I'm anti-halloween only in that it's a pain in my ass to make arrangements to not be at home to give out candy... ;)

Plus I have to deal with all the decorating and merry-making that goes on at work...

Halloween is for dressing up and getting candy, just like Christmas is for handing out and getting gifts.

I'm anti-Christmas gifts too. Nuisance, and it trains kids really wrong. It's amazing to watch a four year old turn incredibly materialistic around Christmas. I don't mind the giving of gifts, but when it gets to be expected, then I have issues. I give gifts at Christmas, but I respectfully request my relatives and whoever to NOT give me anything. Christmas has been much better like that.

Why do you give gifts if you are against it?

I hate getting gifts too. I think it's just stupid. I don't give them either.

You need to ask your Christian coworkers which is the greater evil: one night of harmless pseudo-pagan (even that's a stretch) shenanigans for kids, or gross commercialization of the celebration of the birth of Christ.....starting earlier and earlier every year? If they wanna get outraged about something it should be that Christmas, the holiest of Christian holidays, is a commercial feeding-frenzy. :disgust:

I'm not anti-celebration or anti-fun or anti-dressing up, or anti-games or anything. I am against things that reinforce old traditions and rituals with satanic roots and meanings.

And, since most of that stuff is incorporated in Halloween, like bobbing for apples, eating dougnuts off of string, dressing up as specific characters, etc., I don't celebrate the holiday.

Everybody else can have all the fun they want, but I'll keep to my convictions by not supporting things that I know I shouldn't.

"Won't somebody pleeeease think of the children!"

Gimme a fvckin break..its a kids holiday thats meant to be fun and encourage creativity. If you take that away you're just depriving them.

I'm against it.
Its pagan worship and ridiculous how
almost EVERYONE refuses to recognize that and just
see Halloween as a time to dress up and exchange candy.

However, i will prolly let my kids have some fun with it
just because its so fvcking capitalized and promoted that i
can't avoid it.

The Chinese/Japanese also have something like this when
The Gates of Hell open and its a holiday for the ghouls to come out
and have a blast...at least they recognize it for what it is and
it is more about appeasing the spirits than dressing up like them.
O yeh...i never did understand the candy part?...anyone enlighten me?

Surely the kids have no idea about this.
They simply are having fun dressing up and getting candy.
Would you suggest that a Pagan who partook in Baptism would receive a blessing?

The word "Halloween" comes from a contracted corruption of All Hallows Eve. November 1, "All Hollows Day" (or "All Saints Day"), is a Catholic day of observance in honor of saints

No it isn't.
What matters is where your heart and mind are, not the roots of the event.
