Sorry. I don't take phone calls. If still "nothing" after following steps, then there is really nothing more I can do, even on the phone.

1. download "winrar", and install it in your PC

2. download both rar files, and put both file in same folder.

3. double click one of the rar file you downloaded, and it will start unzip process.

4. after unzip is done you will get one big file that is almost 200mb.

5. go back to first page and follow installation procedure.

Hey TimeKeeper, maybe you could release non-passworded copies of the rar files. It seems to really throw some people for a loop.

This thread alone has spawned probably a dozen or more new members. Most likely people coming in from other GPS forums who really don't have the computer/tech backgrounds we AT geeks all do. Hopefully they all take advantage of this forum and lurk around long enough, they'll be pleasantly educated on a myriad of computer related subjects. But until then...

Actually, anyone can turn these files to a non-passworded file.
I really don't mind those who just grab-and-run, but....
maybe just maybe, they will NOT missed the whole point why I post this free file.

Timekeeper - THANKS! Worked nice and smoothly for me. I used 7zip to un-rar the files. Just an option for people.

Thanks Timekeeper. I just updated the POI file for my 3140. Your instructions worked smoothly. I had got this from Amazon for 149.99 around 2 weeks ago. So now I have bluetooth, tex2speech (most valuable), multiple destination routing and 6M POI..all for 149.99. Only con is low battery life. No big deal. Thanks a lot again !

simple... your old MIO C230 doesn't have most of retail store POI, such as BESTBUY, BED BATH and Beyond, or Target.

After install, you should have them all.

TimeKeeper, I don't have a catagory called retail stores at all. The closest is one called home improvement in options. All my options are checked but when in POI mode there is no listing for home improvement at all. The POI option list is different then the POI list. Did I get a bad download or an imcomplete download?

Ok, I think I have a problem. I can't find many local stores like Lowe's, Home Depot, Ikea, True Value, McLendon's Hardware ect. When I click on the file that is in the Map directory, it says "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged" This is in E\map/us48_POI.POI What to do???

Change a pc. make sure your pc is not infected w/ virus.
Download it again, ask your friend to upload to your unit.

There is nothing wrong w/ the file I upload. ( provided this thread has been view more than 50,000 time and downloaded more than thousand times )

So, make sure have your friend look over the instruction on the first post again.

Can't explain just what I did but it's finally working properly. The file was there it just was not engaged. A box came up and asked me if I wanted to use the big file instead of the small file and I said yes and now it works.

sounds like you didn't read through the first post carefully. :)
You have to back up and delete your original POI file off your GPS.

I know that it must be a pain for you teckies to read this drivel but now my TFAT folder says 1.90 GB and the MAP folder says 1.34 GB. Does this mean I have downloaded too much for the Magellan? It seems to work ok.

Thank You,

after you unzip the both files, you will get the US48POI.POI file.
( I don't know what you want me to xplain? )

Please read through first post again before install. (also read though entire thread, if you still don't get it)
If you are unfamiliar w/ file structure, I suggest you ask your friend to help you doing this.

If you don't have any friend who is capable of transferring files for you, I'd suggest you abandon this operation, because it might brick your GPS.

Also, there is chance your PC is not virus free. Make sure your PC is virus free!

The Winrar archive files should never have been on your GPS, only in a file on your computer. After they were extracted to form one 193Mb file, that file should be transferred to the GPS.

This is so easy to do and works great. I now have 6 MIL new POI's. Thanks for the nice work. I hope we can do the same with new maps ASAP.

The Rar files should not be in your GPS only in a file you setup on your PC. You can delete them on your GPS. Make sure you keep them on your PC for future use if needed. The file that you created when you unrar them should have over written the file on your GPS. You want to make sure that happened. The guy that posted the two files explained it faily well but for someone new at this it can be confusing. I happen to work with rar files all the time so it is easier for me. Hope this helps.
