Just completed POI update on my 3225. Worked like a charm. Anyone should be able to do this update because I am not that tech savvy and it worked for me. Thanks for the update, TimeKeeper. And thank you for encouraging people to donate to worthy causes. I personally extend microfinance loans at kiva.org. You can loan money over & over again because it is paid back. Not a hand out but a hand up. Thanks again.

Some accessories are starting to show up at the www.magellangps.com ...

No prices, nor pictures, but the simple existence of the 3225 in this sections represents some good news.

Also another good news is that the model 3225 has an entry into the Maestro main page, with pictures, etc. (at the bottom at the page).

I think we may get firmware updates in the future :)

UPDATED: PIctures for accessories are already there... no prices, nor a way to order them online.

I followed Jagfan and Timekeepers directions for my 3200 but now my Maestro can't find the SD card and doesn't show any POI's.
Do you think it could just be the card or is something wrong with the unit?

I think I have mentioned quite clearly, that those 2 files I created only for 3225, not 3200 due to memory size.

You did but Jagfan said she had modified it to work on the 3200 and I thought it had worked for a number of people.

Oh...
There is a PM (private message) function. You might want to PM them in case they didn't get to read your request.

Actually, try different usb port.

Judging from 30K view and numbers have been downloaded, I think something might be preventing you from properly unzip the file in your PC?

You do not need any CD for Magellan. It is wince base, your winxp or vista will be able to recognize all the files inside your device upon connection.

Try different PC? Sorry, this is what I can think of right now.

For all you 3200 owners out there, I was successful in modifying the files so that the map is on the main drive and the 6M POI file is on the SD card. Without the SD card, the unit WILL map but fail in doing POIs. With the SD card, the unit will both map and do POIs.

Will you tell us how you accomplished that?

First, credits to Timekeeper and dgoeken for sharing their information and expertise. Before starting, backup your 3200.

1. Get the 6M POI file using Timekeepers instructions on the first post of this topic.
2. Create a MAP subdirectory on an SD card (I used a 2G)
3. Copy the 6M POI file (US48_POI.POI) to the MAP subdir on SD card
4. Copy the following 3 files from the 3200 to the MAP sudirectory on the SD card:
Index.mct, NRBM_NA.MGI, and US48.IMI (Do not delete them from the 3200).
5. Edit the Media.cfg file on the 3200 so that #POI Map Data points to
\SDMMC Card\Map
6. When the 3200 is disconnected, it should reset automatically. If not reset with paperclip.
7. Without the SD card inserted, 3200 should map but not POI.
8. Insert SD card and reset with paperclip - 3200 should now map and POI. Anytime you remove SD card while 3200 is on, the unit will need to be reset when the SD card is re-inserted. If SD card stays in unit, you can turn it off and on at will and it will map and POI.
I plan to keep the SD card in the 3200.

Can someone with a 3200 please help me out? I forgot to save a copy of the Media.cfg file before I edited. Could someone please open up their MEdia.cfg file and tell me what the #POI Map Data points to originally?
I would greatly appreciate it!

Sorry, I don't. Besides, I don't think 3225 has or can be upgrade w/ European map?

I recently purchased the Magellan 3225 and one of the big selling points was reading about it on this forum. I've been trying to update to 6M POIs but have been unsuccessful.

I read thru the entire thread and tried everything and am unable to open the files (Got the CRC with incorrect password). I'm running WinRAR 3.71 Trial version on Windows Vista.

Appreciate any help. Thanks in advance!!!

I tried again this afternoon and for some reason it worked this time. Must be those gremlins in my computer.

Timekeeper, awesome POIs...works like a charm and with this upgrade makes my 3225 a much better system.

TimeKeeper,

My very first post goes to you. Thanks.

I will be buying this at the Costco store if they have it there.

Just one question, I am using 7-zip to uncompress the 2 files from the first page of this thread. Do I just uncompress the part 1 and it will also do part 2?

That is what I did. The US48_POI.POI is 188 mb after I used 7-zip.

Can anyone confirm this is correct?

Thanks.

Yup. Just grabbed a couple for me and my wife. I had purchased the 4250 from Costco a couple days ago, but it's buggy. In addition to all the common gripes about the unit (VR lacks in scope and bluetooth just lacks all over), my unit would just boot to USB mode when plugged in to my car. Eventually, after a series of powering on and off it would boot correctly...but I couldn't find a pattern to it. Irritating as hell and it's going back pronto.

We've already used the 3225 today and experienced no problems. The POIs will make this unit an incredible deal at Costco's price.

I just want to report back.

I bought it last night after work, charge it all night and added the POI without any problem.

My OS is XP pro.

Thanks again to TimeKeeper.

"Recently" as in just the other day, or the past couple of months? And how "outdated" are you talking? I think the 3225 has the most recent maps offered by Magellan, and even those are only current as of Q1 2007. It all depends on how recently Navteq has updated and released their maps to the manufacturers, and how quickly the manufacturers are able to update/include them in new products.

You might try registering the product on Magellan's website and see if there's a free update for you. You could also try contacting support, but beware that their support department has a notoriously bad reputation.

Go here. According to their FAQ the 4040 maps are current as of Q3 2006, but there is a firmware update (v2.36) and voice update available.

Can anyone offer up the software for v1.36. I dug through all the units at my local Costco and could only find v1.26. I decided to get one before they were gone, since they seemed to be going fast. My unit does have hardware v-3 and I'm fairly proficient at 'puter stuff. But its unclear whether the software upgrade would include flashing a ROM (as in a firmware upgrade) or just replacing files? Any ideas are welcome. PM me if you think we can work together to make it happen. I'm in Phoenix, AZ...if there's anyone local that would let me just make a mirror image of all the files on their v1.36 unit...and happy to help in return with any sort of home automation, media or security type stuff...or upgrade your POIs if you're nervous about it.

Mine are v1.26 and hardware v-2. What updates does 1.36 offer?

I see reference to units with 1.36 earlier in this thread, but no clear indication what the differences are between 1.26 and 1.36...only talk about differences between 1.14 and 1.36. At first I thought v1.36 might just be a typo in one post, but then another person said they had 1.36 and mentioned that they thought it booted faster with some difference in detail at the top of the map display. Then some guy mentioned that he actually worked with all three versions on company Holiday gifts, but only one of them was v1.36. Others have asked earlier about the differences between 1.26 and 1.36 without an answer. So, I thought I'd ask around for anyone with 1.36 files, back up the files on my 1.26 unit and install the files from 1.36 to see if there's any discernible difference.

I guess I'm also asking if others really have v1.36 with hardware -3 and trying to explore if its just a software upgrade or firmware upgrade.

Any input is welcome.
