Thanks to TimeKeeper, now I have 6million POIs on my new Magellan 3225! :)

My knowledge to multi-media function in any GPS is non-existance. ( w/ all my GPS test/ reviews, I never bother w/ that, sorry)

When I connect the USB cable to the GPS unit, the message on the unit says : "The USB has been connected to the unit. Please follow instructions from your PC application for updating maps or software. etc.. " What application do I use in order to transfer the new 6 mil POI data to the unit?

The 32xx and 31xx are pretty similar especially after the recently released Magellan 31xx update. Keeping in mind, as mentioned at the link below, hacking can result in bricking.

http://goeken.homedns.org/Weat...ellan3100/Magellan.htm

David Goeken seems to have figured out some things. The 3225 has much more free space than the 3100 and 3200 so you won't need to use the SD card for this stuff. The battery life sucks too much for me and it has no headphone jack so I have no desire to use mine for anything but navigation.

I have not tried any of these hacks and cannot answer any questions about them.

TimeKeeper gets my vote of thanks for sure. The downloads were easy to accomplish, and the two files merged seemlessly when unpacked. The merged file loaded on my Magellan Maestro 3225 without a problem. As with any database, there are some minor glitches. Family Dollar Store came up as a church in my city. On the other hand, maybe Somebody has something. :)

I followed David Goeken's webpage and loaded the 6 mm POI's onto my SD card, I kept the map on the 3100 hard drive, and it works great!! I told my husband that I turned his $128 Christmas present into about a $350 present! He uses it several times a week, but I can't wait for our three family trips in February to try it out myself!

Thanks so much Mr Goeken!

For some reason POI data for Canada/ Hawaii/ Alaska/ Puerto Rico has NO changes.
HI still only holds 868K of POI data.

I am getting the same message when I plug in the car charger or my data cable. Unfortunately I don't have the CD that normally comes with the 3225 since I bought it on eBay after reading all the great reviews here. I can get into the contents through My Computer but that doesn't remove the "The USB has been connected to the unit. Please follow instructions from your PC application for updating maps or software. etc.. " message.

If anyone can tell me how to get past this message I sure would appreciate it. For now I am just charging it for a while then unplugging the charger so I can use the unit. It sure would be nice to be able to leave the unit on when I travel and be juiced by the car charger.

Thanks!

If you go to windows explorer you should see a drive called TFAT. That is your GPS. You can drag the files into the proper folders-no special application needed.

I loaded the new POI file into my 3110. Sometimes when I try to look something up It freezes. Anybody else have the same trouble? It will also bring up a list but freeze. The 'NEXT' button will not work.

It is for 3225 only, as I have stated in first post.

I've had the 6million POI file on my 3100 since shortly after this thread started and it's working perfectly.

I had updated my poi files before posting here. That part was not a problem. They work fine on my 3225.

My problem is not trying to update the files... it is how can I remove the "The USB has been connected to the unit. Please follow instructions from your PC application for updating maps or software. etc.. " message when using my car charger? It charges the unit fine, I just can't turn on the unit for mapping while plugged into car charger.

Any suggestions sure would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Sounds like you might not have a OEM magellan Auto charger?
IF not, try change the fuse to 1A 250vdc.

I pulled out the fuse in the charger and it says F1.5AL250V. All I see at Radio Shack is 1.5A 250V. I will check with them tomorrow.

Thanks! I will let you know if it works.

Final report! I went to Radio Shack and changed out fuses. Unfortunately that didn't solve the problem. I decided to give up on the charger I bought for the 3225 and see if they had a replacement. They had one with several different connections so I tried the tip that looked right. The same message came up so I didn't get it. As I was leaving the store the manager stopped me and asked what the problem was. I told her and she said let's try again. She got the tip out, set it back up and the same message popped up. She grabbed another tip and BINGO! it worked. So, the charger I bought on eBay specifically for the Magellan 3225 will now go into a drawer. It would probably cost me more to send it back.

Thanks for all your help on this one. At least my problem is solved and will be in the archives in case someone else has the same issue.

Reason I suggest that fuse is because I look into my current OEM magellan Auto charger which only has 1A fuse, compare to my other non-oem charge's 1.5A that cause problem.
When I switch the fuse, it works for me.

Not a problem at all and please don?t worry about the $2.00 suggestion! They were more than willing to refund that charge. Sometimes it is the zebras that work out.

Hi Timekeeper,

Thank you for your efforts in putting 6 M POIs together. I bought 3225 yesterday and inspired and bought one from Costco at 199.99. I followed your procedure on page 1 which is quite simple and with in a minute I got 6 M POI's in my 3225.

Thanks for your help.
