TimeKeeper,

Could you upload Canada.POI from 3250? so that I can update it on my 3225 also.

Thank you.

The extended POI file seems to work good. Just uploaded it to my device with no problem.

I just bought the 3225 at Costco but do not find any drivers. When I plug into USB it does not seem to recognize a device as being connected. Do I need to something else to "see" the GPS as connected?

Are you using a PC? What operating system? With WinXP it should just show up as a hard drive.

Interestingly, the unit seems more updated. The map files are the same i guess-- version 29(I believe)
The firmware is 1.26 (not 1.14 as yours), the hardware version is -2 not -1 or -0 as yours.

Mine purchased in the US is firmware version 1.26 and hardware version -2.

What does everyone else have?

I also have the version 1.26 firmware version -2 hardware. When I connect it via USB, Windows recognizes the device as a USB Mass Storage device, but it then doesn't seem to associate it with a drive. :( I therefore can't update the POI file or anything.

Anyone else with a 1.26 seeing the same thing?

I copied the new US48_POI.POI file to MAP directory and ended up totally losing my gps signal. It can't even lock on one satellite. It seems to have locked up. Any suggestions?

POI has nothing to do w/ GPS signal.
Your GPS signal will work even w/out entire set of map or POI data.

Many thanks, Timekeeper!!

Here the info on my Mag 3225:

Map - vers. 29
Firmware - 1.36
Hardware -3

I have a question - can we just download the 2.36 firmware update from another model # into our unit? I am not tech savy to try that out!

What's model the firmware 2.36 come frome? I am not sure you can do it. If something goes wrong I do not think you can reversible to the original state...

that's the latest firmware out htere for the 4040s and 4050s. What I'd found out for the 4250s at BB are 2.24, hardware -3 and map ver.29. these do appear to map /route faster. And no confusion about right/left turns.

I do wonder about the reversibility part. The POI menu screen for the 4250 is set up differently from the 3225s to make up for the AAA book. wayfarerIL.

Thank you sir, it worked great. May I ask you where did you get the Poi file from?

I don't think firmware is "exchangeable", especially from older model such as 31xx or 4xxx model.

Just said, I get this Data specifically for 3225. :)

The reason I ask is, some of the POI seem outdated. Like the the unit doesn't pick up the Staples next door, but it picks up the one 7 miles out.

Also there are some redundant entries...

Also today while going to work, I had an issue where the unit asked me to stay on the wrong HWY, where as the display showed the correct exit for the next HWY.

Will the poi work in 3140? I just ordered 3140 from amazon in 219!! For me, it was a bigger bargain than 199+40(S&H, tax etc) for 3225 at Costo. I hope I will be able to update the POI. Thanks

What are you trying to accomplish here. 3225 assume you upgrade sucessfully with 6 mil POI. 3140 has 4.3 mil POIs and in fact 20 or 30$ different between the twos.

Costco has excellent return policy. Amazon has that?

loctran02: 3140 has bluetooth, AAA tourbook which 3225 does not have. I like 3140's body than slimmer 3225/3250. I have seen them at Radioshack.

btw, I have no plans to return it. I already canceled my order of Garmin 360. I need multiple destination routing, so I wanted to buy nuvi 750, but I heard it's chipset is of degraded quality (no SiRF III). So, for couple of years I am gonna stick with 3140. Would have been nice to hack it with new larger POI available here though.

Let me preface this by saying I have the 3225 which I am happy with so far (due to Timekeeper).

The gpsmagazine.com review of the 3140 is what made me look to the 32xx series. GPSmagazine.com reviewed a prerelease model but said during testing the unit continued suggesting turning around and picking up the originally plotted route instead of rerouting for -10 miles- after a missed turn. I know there are circumstances/locations where that may actually be desirable but tend to think that is more of a flaw. I like instant rerouting. I also like the size of the 32xx. I think the interface is a tad too chatty though but the 31xx is probably the same.

I guess bluetooth integration may be useful once in a while but the 3210 has the 6M POI file and the AAA Tourbook (though it lacks bluetooth, TTS and traffic data upgradability) for about the same price as the 3140. Like all GPS model decisions it comes down to what is important to you.

i am more happy with the 3225 than the 4250. th voice command functions dont work well. the time it takes to do what I want, I could be finished using the touch-screen! The more I get to know its many features, the more I'd like! just great for $!! I only wish there my unit has the 2.24 firmware is all.

Steve22:

Good luck on your 3140 GPS. I think that Magellan try to sale their products as much as possible so their models vary slightly from one to another. Did you sucess upgrade 6 mil POI to your 3140? Most of the folks here are sucessfull upgrade to 6 mil POI to their 3225(include me). I have not heard anyone upgrade 3140 yet.
Let us know your result. BTW, some folks said 3140 has some reroute issues

I will surely let you know when it arrives. I do hope it has enough memory space to upgrade it (I heard 3200 does not have enough space to upgrade).

I am AAA member. One thing I like about Maestro 3140 is that I will have a total of 2 years warranty with my AAA membership. Thanks.
