I just use a 4:1 mixture sugar to water and the hummingbirds leave me little thank you cards.

Those aren't humming birds. Those are hummingbird moths. They look and act just like humming birds, except they have a lot less fear. Look closely next time and you'll see antanne.

you've never seen one before? they're cool, aren't they? so spastic. I actually had one fly around me a few times when I was out enjoying the sun, and its wings were so loud I thought I was hearing a weedwhacker or something.
 
Hmmmm.... I just realized that if I buy the property I'm looking at, I should leave the milkweed plants alone, or possibly relocate/transplant them in one huge cluster near the flower garden so I can see plenty of butterflies/moths/etc.

Damnit, you're right, I got pwned by a moth.

The first time I saw one I was debating for 5 minutes if it was a moth or a hummingbird (cut me some slack, it was dark out). The fact that it was HUGE and that it was lovin' on the flowers (I thought moths only loved on lights) made me affirm that it was a hummingbird, but there was always the doubt. Now I know. That sucks. I let that bastard sniff my finger! *feels so used*
 
in my country i saw people selling these humming birds. the one i saw was very beautiful. maybe they only chose the beautiful ones to sell. it had shimmering feathers with all kind of color/color combination. damn, taht time i was a kid and only wished to squish them with my own hands cuz they looked so cute (kinda an unhealthy way to admire nature, heh?) 😀

They live in Wisconsin too... Pretty far from tropical.

Just put a regular bird feeder out there - I've seen them knock those over for the seeds before. If they're used to people, leave an old cooler out and see what happens. Look booboo, a pickanick basket! 😛
