Well, it turns out this crazy EM drive...which we still have no idea how it works...also works in a vacuum, meaning it will work in space. It's like a real-life Impulse engine from Star Trek! They're even saying it could potentially propel spacecraft at near relativistic speeds. Cool :)

Moving out from LEO, Mr. March, from NASA EagleWorks, noted that a spacecraft equipped with EM drive technology could surpass the performance expectations of the WarpStar-I concept vehicle.

If such a similar vehicle were equipped with an EM Drive, it could enable travel from the surface of Earth to the surface of the moon within four hours.

The eve crazier part is they may have even seen evidence of a warp field around the drive while in operation. They're still looking into that, but this will be HUGE news if this all pans out.

Sounds like Chinese have more talent than NASA.......

How does any of this help human's I don't really know. Space travel is the stuff of the 60s and 70s.

OK fine, it will enable us to find and get to other planets and destroy them as well.

GREAT

What exactly have we accomplished by traveling into space (mars missions, moon etc).

It's just bunch of dick waving.....

We know it works because that site says this guy that works for NASA said it works on their forum. Yeah that checks out.

They will need 20 billion dollars to further investigate this technology.

Right now, humans have all of their eggs in one basket: we live on one planet, 75% if which is uninhabitable. One asteroid, one disease, one nuclear exchange, one supervolcano eruption....that's all it would take to wipe all of us out. Space exploration and colonization is essential for the survival of our species.

So if you know nothing about space science why are you even bothering to say something?

So you are telling me that survival of the species that are responsible for ruining this planet is important.

:)

There is NO other baskets that we know of. And even if there were AND if this technology was already here......we would only damage this planet even more and of course damage the new planet that we find.

It's best that we keep the damage limited.

:)

Look at earth from space or a plane......we are like MOLD on a fruit or a veggie.

No body here (including you) knows anything about space science.

Ohh wait, you have access to internet so you MUST be an expert on "space science".

I'm starting to think you don't understand anything...

I think he wants more money given to millennials so they can get useless degrees for free and live in their parent's basement.

I've no idea if this will amount to anything but if it does work? We could greatly enhance our ability to explore our solar system.

As I stand out here in the wonders of the unknown at Hadley, I sort of realize there's a fundamental truth to our nature, Man must explore . . . and this is exploration at its greatest.

Actually with current technology it would be possible to keep a small percentage of the world population alive although most of humanity would not survive many of those world catastrophes. However one disease is probably never going to be able to wipe out all of humanity. Even any supervolcanno eruption is probably not going to wipe out all of humanity around the world although something like the Yellowstone Caldera would destroy the western half of America and destroy the world economy in addition to causing problems for the rest of the world because of particles in the atmosphere.

And finally look now what you have basically made me find this concerning information.

And as some type of funny or cruel joke of coincidence at first I did not have the above on my clipboard but this shit.

Um, it's kind of important to the people that belong to said species.
I mean, if you don't think our species should continue, I certainly hope you don't plan to reproduce.

It is completely possible to colonize Mars and the moon with current construction technology. Our propulsion technology is the only thing holding us back. The reason we're ruining our planet is we're still using propulsion technology to get around that's 100 years old.

Not even it is just that it makes it even more difficult for the terribly limited resources our governments are even willing to throw towards science. We need like 4 to 5 times the current funding for NASA and that is still conservative on the funding vs. worth of space operations.

uh, yeah, until we find the relay around pluto in a few weeks.

obviously.
