Who would buy an FX-60????

Since you can still buy an Opteron an OC to ~2.6 (easy on 170+175), why would you get an FX-60 at $1000 when your almost garunteed 2.6 on an Opty 170 that costs a hell of a lot less???!!!!

EDIT: Plus AM2 is being release soon. (another reason not to get one).

Honestly, I'd rather pay a premium for an Opteron 165 or 170 with a good stepping than a FX-60. Looks like the s939 Opteron dual-cores can OC higher if you get the right ones.

They are not worth the money in my opinion but for those with the cash who want a chip with a very good chance of hitting 3.0Ghz+ on air, than they're a great chip. Very few dual core chips can hit those kinds of speeds with any kind of stability

I would guess that they would OC better than the 170, and being multiplier unlocked, you could run memory@250 1:1 (in my case) no divider. If I had the bucks right now, I might

Obviously computer enthusists are gonna wan't one to say they have the best processor there is, but thats pretty much the only reason to have one (to brag abotu haaving it), for any real application its jsut a waste of money.

Actually the friggen cpu is $1300+

A waste of money considering games don't even take advantage of it. My rig total costs $1550. SO basically $1300 can get you a fully loaded computer, a nice computer.

basically the point is only get one of you have way too much money and somehow get off on having a better computer then everyone else. IF you are not rich, or have bigger priorities then proving your computer is better then all the other nerds then it makes no sense to buy this processor.

Do you know what a hobby is? Some people like to tinker around with computer hardware. They'd rather spend their money on that than fancy clothes or other premium items.

Buy your statements, why would ANYONE buy premium/luxury items when there are standard items that are comparable?

If I really had that much spare money, and nothing else to spend it on, I maybe would... But I'd wait for Revision 2 of GigaByte's i-RAM and buy some of those as well (together with the loads of mem sticks)...

By the time the new i-RAM is out, I will be able to pick an overclocked BFG 7900Ultra @ 1250/3500MHz or so... I wouldn't take SLI, just for the principle... It's a waste (states the guy who would buy all the abovementioned cr*p)...

EDIT: Honestly, I'd never buy it... It's an art to make the most of your money, even if it needs overclocking therefore... That's why I love my Sempy @ 2.4GHz and 6800GS @ 520/1200MHz much, much more than my Venice 3000+ @ 2.4GHz and 7800GTX @ 500/1350MHz...
