Who works four 10 hour days?

Management has finally decided to allow us to work 4 ten hour days. The way it is scheduled, we will get a 4 day weekend every other week. In other words, here is our proposed repeating 2 week schedule:

Sunday - off
Monday-Thursday 10 hour work days
Friday-Monday - off
Tuesday-Friday 10 hour work days
Saturday - off

I think this is going to be great, but I was wondering how working 10 hrs a day vs. 8 hrs a day is going to be. Does anyone else do this?

If you're busy, its not bad. If you have nothing to do, its a long day. Anything to get a day off is nice though.

Production is scheduled four 10s (M-Th), staff is scheduled for five 8s (M-F). Us special people get to be scheduled for five 10s (M-F). I really don't notice a difference between an 8-hour day and a 10-hour day.

Personally I'd rather have a full day off than an extra few hours of free time over the course of a week. Sounds worthwhile.

I used to... I liked it, but in my current department, all it would lead to is fewer people working per shift.

I've done the standard m-th 4x10. This schedule sounds even better!

OP I am working on a proposal for us to be able to do this, do you have any information as to what convinced management to implement it for you?

That's my problem...There are many times, I'm not busy at all. I think, for now, I'd stick with 5 8 hour days.

10 hour days are nothing; as long as you're busy, they will go by fast

A lot of people have been asking for it forever, but the official management line is that it is to help employees combat fuel prices (i.e. driving to and from work).

My last job I was required to work 2 open to close a week. 6:30 am to 9pm, boy do i not miss those days.

I do a 10hr Mon-Thurs and I love it! Having Friday off is beautiful. The days tend to drag come mid-afternoon but mornings go pretty quickly. I find myself a bit more productive early in the AM when nobody is around too.

i wish i had that...i usually work 10-12 hr days /5 days a week and on call some weekends....

I don't know of any business reasons, other than a lot of people have begged for it for years.

Who the heck only works a 10 hour day? Most of the people I work with do the 5x12 thing, but this is the Silicon Valley.

I have the option to do it but I usually never exercise such option. I just get so used to working 8 hour days that unless I'm being kept over by a meeting or something that's got me captivated while working on it, I usually prefer leaving after 8. It also doesn't help that I can only do it for a couple months out of the year, so I would literally have to transition into a 4x10 in June and then back to a 5x8 in September.

In the spring/summer/fall, I work Monday - Thursday 0630-1700. I have every Friday/Saturday/Sunday off. If Monday is a holiday, I get a 4 day weekend. If Monday is a holiday, I usually take Tue/Wed/Thu off for a 10 day weekend but I only use 3 days of vacation.

In the winter, I work Sunday - Saturday, 0600 - 1800 during inclement weather. If it isn't inclement, I work Monday - Friday, 0730 - 1600.

Silicon Valley here:
M-Th 10hr days
F - 7hr day to hit up happy hour with my coworkers
Sat/Sun - whatever backlog I did not get done

Overall 55-60hr work weeks.

I can't remember the last time I worked only 8 hours. I always end up staying after for something or another... leaving exactly 8 hours after I show up is definitely not an option for me.
