Funny how any white guy is automatically qualified in the right's eyes but any woman or person of color is automatically a DEI hire that isn't qualified. The not so subtle implication is that women and people of color can't be qualified for those jobs but they still pretend like they aren't racist sexist assholes.

Why do you think they want to do away with DEI stuff? Because DEI forces them to recognize their biases. They aren’t sexist or racist because they said so. You can’t be holding a mirror to their face to show them what they truly are, now can we?
 
Something else of note happened at the convention besides the VP pick. If the Democrats abandon the unions in the coming years it's not going to be for no reason. They are being pulled by culture into Trump's orbit but rely entirely on Democrats for their policy wins. If there is no political payoff for Dems to help them we'll stop and leave them to the tender mercies of JD Vance and Josh Hawley lol. Biden saved the pension of a third of a million teamsters and the thanks is a big "fuck you".

Last I heard O'Brien wasn't slated to address the DNC? I couldn't find anything.

My guess is a lot of his members lean Trump and no "official" endorsement gives them cover to vote for him. Biden can ill afford to lose anyone else at this point. The party seems rudderless right now.

If the Teamsters want to forgo any political power in return for less than nothing because their membership likes Trump then that's their business.

Honestly, it's a big problem for many allegedly many policy focused groups. For example, look at some of the climate activists like Sunrise (who have been absorbed by the omnicause) - no political reward for the largest climate bill to date, or antiwar people re: drones/Afghanistan - just adversarial criticism or crickets.

This was the exact calculus used by Bill Clinton in courting white collar suburban voters and ignoring the blue collar vote. It worked for one election but has been a long term disaster for the Dems.

So far guys like Hawley and now Vance are trying to walk the line of just enough left wing economic populism (see Vance's previous comments about Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Bros) to court even more blue collar workers. I'm not saying they're genuine in their comments, only that it's clearly their strategy.

This is why the Vance pick is going to be helpful for securing the Midwest rust belt indies and why I LOL when certain members claim that Kamala from CA is going to help Biden keep the blue wall. Utterly detached from reality.

I think of it as the upside of catastrophe.

Bob Dylan once said (paraphrasing, I don't have the exact quote, but this is close if not exact), we all need a good shakeup. However, K1052's prognosis goes way beyond that, it's economic devastation.
