Who where doesn't have an emergency backup plan?

I live in a suburban area so I'm good for food. Lots of overweight children these days. They can't run fast.

Seriously though, I don't have a plan. I'm good though. For power outages, I've got lots of candles, wind up flash lights. Got a gas fireplace for heat and a natural gas BBQ for cooking. Neither of which require electricity to run. I always have enough non perishable food to last at least the recommended 3 days.

This part of planet Earth really isn't susceptible to natural disasters though. The ice storm we had last week was the worst in years. Still a few people without power due to all the downed trees but it's not like they have nowhere to go. I'll probably never get myself into a survival situation. Though I probably know more than most city folks if I did. I can make a fire and cook over it, find water, shoot a bow, tie some basic knots, make a shelter, sharpen an axe, and I know to keep away from scary animals.

I probably should but no I don't. Then again I don't live in an area that has very small chance of large scale emergencies. We don't get floods, tornadoes, hurricanes or earthquakes here.

Eventually I want to look at getting a generator and an inlet on the house with transfer switch though.

If by chance we ever did get something out of the ordinary like a tornado or hurricane, I do have a concrete crawlspace under my garage that I could go hide out in till the storm passes. I don't think that slab is very thick though, maybe like 6 inches, so I don't know if it would actually survive such storm. It is designed to be strong enough to hold a car, not a tanker truck full of gas being thrown towards it at 300mph.

We keep ~2 weeks of food around, mostly in MRE form. Water available, have generator, candles, flashlights, etc., etc.

It's not that we're survivalists or anything, but after you suffer through no elec. for over a week from an ice storm, you begin to take some sensible precautions, like some food, keep full tank of gas in vehicle, keep generator functioning and gas on hand for it, etc., etc.

Remember, when there's no elec. around, you're not getting much from anywhere. Can't get money out of an ATM, stores don't function well or even open, gas isn't dispensed, you're essentially shut down. Just ask those suffering without power right now in the NE.

Tornado plan, fire plan, no other emergency plans. Though last summer we had an extended power outage and I realized I should be prepared better. Haven't done anything about it since.

I have a reasonable emergency plan.. which is to say, a couple flashlights, extra batteries, solar radio/cellphone charger, and 1-2 weeks worth of food/water.

my "worst case emergency" would be something like getting snowed under in a mega blizzard coupled with a power outage, not prep'ing for a zombie outbreak or anything.

I'm too broke to have one that would be effective....my plan is to just buy dogfood if something bad ever happens.

Short of being a complete idiot doomsday prepper with a bunker in Idaho what exactly qualifies as an emergency plan? I have enough food and liquid to last at least a week if power/water went out, that's plenty for anyone. If the shit REALLY hits the fan and Yellowstone erupts or terrorists nail us with a series of EMP weapons to wipe out normal services for months, then having a couple of extra gallons of water and a cache of D cell batteries isn't going to do jack.

I don't. Probably should considering all the crazy weather we get around here (tornadoes, winter storms, etc.).

A plan? Nope

I nor anyone I know has ever been trapped in their house so I don't worry about it.

No, I live in a city.

I'm not a prep or survivalist nut but, I hope you folks understand that the effect of natural catastrophes (floods, storms, tornadoes etc.) are worse in cities than in small towns or rural areas? You do understand how dependent you are on city services that can easily be disrupted? Not having SOME KIND OF PLAN is willful ignorance at best and a Darwin award at worst.

The chance of anything major happening is REALLY small. I chose to worry about things that have a much higher likelihood of occurring.

I believe the plan is to rely on guberment to save us.

If they don't, then plan B is to bitch about guberment not saving us and threaten to vote for the party that will likely cut guberment services further. Good plan?

We have backpacks with everything we would need to last 3 days if we had to evacuate. If we sheltered in place, we have 30 days worth.
I have long guns, hand guns, shotguns and thousands of rounds for all.
We have a generator, battery power pack and solar chargers.
A copy of FM 21-76, antibiotics and a book that covers treatment and dosages.

I probably have enough non-perishable food on hand for a week or so. For water, I'd have to empty the water heater. I also have some decorative candles and a flashlight. For hurricane Sandy I knew I was going to lose power and whipped up a couple led lamps to run on some AAA batteries I had laying around, those worked pretty well. So.. I guess I don't really have a plan.

The probably of anything like that happening is so small that I don't care. And anything can be figured out at the time if it happens.

I don't have a plan...probably should though.

I do have a small generator (but not a lot of gas - probably 8 gallons at most, but most of it has been sitting since the summer. That doesn't include what's in the car right now which is pretty much a full tank.

I have plenty of guns and ammo and I know how to hunt.

I have some non-perishable food that would probably last me at least a few days if needed.

I also have some 1 gallon jugs of water in the basement, but that water is about a year old now. probably should change it out every now and then. Also have several 6 pack bottles of soda (not healthy but better than nothing i guess).

Also have a wood stove and a good bit of wood, plus I live in a rural area with lots of trees. Have a chainsaw ans an axe to cut more wood.

I'm extremely out of shape though so if anything too bad happens where I would have to move a lot on foot, I might as well just shoot myself, haha.
