So, I threw a pair in last night into the box in my sig. For those of you who were watching previously, I had to go up to a 680W PSU just to get that box stable because of all the power it was sucking (went from a 500W Antec SmartPower 2.0, to a Seasonic 600W, to the current TT 680W that I had laying around).

After trying to benchmark last night (I got through one run of 2k5 with the cards at 605/940) w/2k6, I noticed my front 120MM LED fan was dimming every time the 3d portion of the benchmark came on. About midway through all the tests, the computer shut off. I guess I'm going to have to step it up another notch if I don't want to start ripping things out of the case (note that I'm not running what you'd call a conventional setup. I have 5 SATA/II drives, 2 Optical drives, 1 External USB/Firewire drive, 1 External Firewire drive, an X-Fi, 3 120MM fans (of which 1 is on the CPU), and of course a keyboard/mouse).

Ouch! That's some serious powuh. Maybe the 850W PC Power & Cooling unit?

By the way, is this just for fun Ronin or are you looking to make some $$ (that's what I'd do)?

I don't want to mislead you folks, really, or have you get the wrong idea. These cards weren't purchased (nor did I say they were). As someone asked already, yes, these are reference cards, shipped directly from Santa Clara.

Also, I would never, nor have I ever, sold anything ever provided to me free from a manufacturer (I consider that highly unethical).

In regards to the PSU, I've considered that, but I have a hard time spending $500 on just a PSU, so I'm going to see if I can find a solid 600W+ PSU with a high efficiency rating and give that a run.

How in the hell do you go about getting 6 count them 6!!!!!! 7800GTX 512's for free???? Or any for that matter!!!??

You said you couldn't sell them, but how about giving one away? Um....to me?😛

Wow- that's some serious hardware you get to play with. I have the Antec 500w that you have/had- any chance of running 2 reg. GTX or X1900's with a dual core cpu with that PSU? It's cool that Nvidia sent sent you the cards- but why six of them? Do you do some testing for them or? Anyway have fun getting them up and running and O/C'ing and tweaking. If it was me I probably wouldn't see daylight for 3-4 days!

You could also try backing down the OCing a bit... how much voltage do you have going to that FX-57 to get it to 3.2Ghz? With any sort of overvolt, that thing could be sucking up 150-200W (all on your +12V rail) by itself.

WOW YOUR BRUTAL!
lol jk, but share the wealth man... I cant even afford 1, you have 6?!?!?!?

hooooly , you can make 5, or if your greedy at least 4 people SUPER HAPPY.

I was actually running the FX at stock (and I did try the cards back at stock with the same results).

I have a feeling I was already pushing the envelope with the 256MB cards. I might have to bite the bullet, but not until I research all the high end PSUs first.

Anyone have any solid HIGH Efficiency 600W+ PSUs aside from the PCP&C?

ill go get you the best psu ever made if you give me 2 of those.

what do you need, 1 kw? you got it. ill get it for you so you can put all the harddrives and fans you want. i ship it to you, you ship me 2 of those candies. ok?

Just had a random thought (since I still think there is no way the TT680 should be unable to power that system at stock) -- what is the PSU itself plugged into?

You could easily be pulling 7-8A on the 120VAC from the outlet, and maybe your home's wiring just can't supply stable power at that high an amperage level (I know the craptastic wiring in my apartment would probably burst into flames if I tried it)? Or, if you have a surge suppressor, try running it straight into the wall?

I'm in a condo that's got fairly new wiring (the complex itself is < 5 years old, so I hope that's not the issue. I'm not blowing breakers running the box (although, if I run my steam cleaner with various items on, we've had that problem).

I'd try straight to the wall, but I've only got one outlet in that area of the condo, and it's got a full surge supressor (has my cable modem, my LinkSys WRT54GX, my Speakers, my external Seagate, and a single 2405 are plugged into).

lol , few days later your 7800gtx 512MB ! i hope you think your buy was worth it :? how much did you pay for 6 7800GTX 512MB .. $700USD each in a bulk pack. anyways i perorder a x1900xt for $520 :! and it comes in next week :!

if he bought 6 u think he really paid $700 each? Use ur brain tard, hes a reseller.

Just get a PC&P, and not have to worry for a long time. Its what I did, Im on my 3rd PC&P, best PSU out there.

Also, you really need 2gigs of ram...

While I don't disagree with you about the RAM, that's not really my concern right now (note that I've played nothing that's given me reason to actually see the need for it).

The price of the PCP&C isn't what I would consider something that would make it a no brainer purchase (the 850W is $475 at it's cheapest).

Methinks you should put some heavier wiring on your power supply lines; that would help keep the voltages up at the board end. Think car audio cables. Also, that's another thing you could try; hook a car battery up in parallel with your power supply.

You should talk, bud...if you read the thread, you'd have known the answer, and you wouldn't have posted such a response to begin with. 😉
