I believe it was the Doobie Brothers.

EDIT: I'm not familiar with any Seger version of the song, though Bob may have covered it at some point. The voice in the original is _way_ too smooth to be Seger though.
 
hehe, Yossarian beat me to it...but I watch the show, I don't care...being into singing myself, I like seeing the "talent" on the show. Today's guys...could have had better song selection for the most part, but the rocker that sang Drift Away was one of the better ones. Constantine, the other rocker, singing "Kiss From a Rose"...not good.
