I didn't proof read my personal statements and found so many grammar errors when I read them after submitting. I still got into UCSD.

No offense but if you had to apply as "out of state" then you probaly won't get in. They make it insanely difficult for out of staters to come here because it is a STATE institution so they give us Californians preference 😉 Almost all UCs have a 90%+ student body from CA. You have UCI at one extreme with 99% of the students from CA, and UCB is the LOWEST at 85% of students being Californians...

So not to dash your hopes at all if you had to apply as out of state 😉

In other news, I spent like 10 hours helping a friend on their essays...



As for "4.0 GPA and 1500 SAT" I have a WHITE friend who had a 3.8 GPA with ONE AP Class (He got a 1 on his AP Chem test b/c he just copied off me and my friends all year) and not a special essay get into UCB. He was good at golf though 😉
 
I applied with the address I live at in CA. SAT's of 1530, 4 APs and 2 college courses, over 1500 hours of community service and a paid job with habitat for humanity this past year. If not for these extracurriculars I would have zero chance in hell.

Still expecting to get owned.

I believe if you do not qualify for CA residency, then you are subject to pay out-of-state tuition fees. To qualify, you have to live in CA for a few years. They won't revoke your admission just because you are from out-of-state.
 
Ugh. Please don't talk to me about personal statements for the University of California application process! I helped a few different people with their statements over the past several weeks.

I applied to several different campuses, but am honestly expecting to get rejected.

Ugh. Please don't help people with their personal statements.
The inability to write a 600 and two 200 word statements means you shouldn't go to UC.
 
There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a friend read over and critique your personal statements for you.

True, but "helped with their statements" implied working with them while the essay was being created rather than proofreading.
