I think I wasted $55. I don't think I have any chance of getting in UCB from out of state. :(

I paid $60...how did you get off with $55?

It was $60?

I turned in the app Wednesday at 3AM. I was too sleepy to remember how much I paid.

Ugh. Please don't talk to me about personal statements for the University of California application process! I helped a few different people with their statements over the past several weeks.

I applied to several different campuses, but am honestly expecting to get rejected.

Ugh. Please don't help people with their personal statements.
The inability to write a 600 and two 200 word statements means you shouldn't go to UC.

lol I helped a few of my HS friends. Yeah their statements were pretty bad. Both were girls with little confidence. One even wrote, I know I have no talents or anything special about me. She somehow thinks being modest and humble is a good thing.

To a degree I agree. I have a friend I helped over ten hours on their personal statement and literally ended up writing 90% of it for them. Their problem is they are smart, but they have only lived here two years and their writing ability is horrible. Their speaking is absolutely fine, and they read fairly slow. But her writing is just absolutely atrocious (funny part is they tested out of having to take it....I have no idea HOW)

To a degree I do think it is unfair that they will probably go to the college of their choice because I helped them on their essay. Regretfully I didn't care for mine, and even with awsome grades I didn't go to my college of choice, though I LOVE where i'm going now ;)

Oh and before someone says I'm out for ass, it was one of my good friend's girlfriends and she is like a big sister to me.

Ah well, sucks for someone else with lower grades than her and spent their own 10 hours on an essay...but I think she will get her arse handed to her in college once she realizes how much she writies (I'm an Engineering major but I have to write so many reports it is crazy...and not just technical reports I'm talking essays)

I was shocked when my friend got into UC - Berkeley. we are in NY. I was betting with her that she won't get in Cal and john hopkin for pre-med. she didn't get in JH. anyways, she goes to cornell.

Still expecting to get owned.

what gpa? That's a good SAT score

UC Berkeley has some of the most random admissions standards of any University out there. i've seen plently of people with insane test scores/GPAs get rejected while some really questionable people that have barely managed to breathe got in. It's part of our 'Diversity' program.

Thanks!

I went to a private highschool with an eccentric gpa system, i'd imagine I have around a B+/A- average in 50/50 Honors/AP

not too competitive yet and you get to enjoy all the benefits of a new facility

While UC gives California community college students first priority over other transfer applicants, the University also accepts those from four-year institutions
UC Link

Do not turn down acceptance letters from Merced or Riverside, you can still get into LA.

I went the community college transfer route since I fvcked around in HS. Ended up being roommates with Corporate Thug, who is smart as hell.

Cal grad here. It's a tradition that most Valedictorians (like me) from my area attend Cal. I don't think Cal admissions is that random. Lots of top kids I know were rejected. I met many geniuses at Cal.

Go Bears!

So you are saying that smart kids are being rejected because of too many smart kids, or because they are letting in mediocre students over smart kids?
