I certainly don't think its Mitch McConnell. Nor the Republican minority leader of the House, who not one in 10 people can even name.
I think its between Rupert Murdoch and Rush Limbaugh.
I think the choice is probably Rush.

Unfortunately for Republicans, it's still GWB. He's _influencing_ people to understand that the Republican party is a big spendin' and war mongerin' party of failure.

Even if he may not be a contender for 2012, I think a lot of Republicans want to hear what Gingrich has to say. Jindal is also going to be listened to. These are more voice that insiders might care about. As for the voice of opposition that will get a lot of press in the upcoming year, I think that is going to mostly rest with the Congressional leadership of McConnell and Boehner, even if they aren't the most influential within their own party.

Gingrich is busy playing coy about whether or not he wants to be the chairman of the RNC. What a piece of work or more accurately, POS he is.

He went down in flames the last time he was on the National stage, no reason to think he has changed enough to have any different outcome this time.

Right now it's Sarah Palin, with a slight nod to Mitch McConnel. Boehner is facing a huge fight for control of the house, he's not doing shit. McConnel is the Republicans' last hope for stopping anything Obama and the Democrats want to do in government, so people will look to him... but he almost lost his seat this last election.

Palin currently has the ear of the media, and in a party so fragmented and so screwed up, whoever can get on TV the most will control its direction.

Right now, it's Ronald Reagan's dessicated corpse, followed closely by Tina Fey. ;)

Look out for a hard charging Jim DeMint, who on Tuesday may lead the charge to disembowel Steven. DeMint has already scolded McCain, will probably make a bid to supplant McConnell as Senate minority leader,
and more importantly, is in agreement that the GOP lost its way by not being conservative enough; An easy message to sell to an ever gullible GOP.

However, as they say, six months is an eternity in politics, meaning the GOP has four eternities to reinvent itself before the next mid term elections. And if the democrats can't dig out of the hole we are all in now, its advantage GOP. While the other GOP advantage will be to choose the new identity that best fit the times for the next election, I might argue that was actually McCain in 2008, but not even the mighty McCain could carry the weight of a GWB monkey on his back. A weight the next generation of GOP candidates will not have to carry.

Giving new meaning to the correct answer being nobody, if the GOP is rational, it will bide its time and not rush any leadership decisions. And since the GOP is seldom rational, we can look forward to some open GOP infighting. Darwinian survival of the fittest may be replaced by survival of the most delusional faithful. As each faction will search for the next Ronald Reagan figurehead and right now the Joan of Arc version
has appeal. But the other polling consideration is that the GOP must do a far better job of appealing to younger voters, females, and it must do far better with Hispanics.

He may be dessicated but he still has great hair! As long as Reagan's hair stays black, the GOP will never die.

John McCain, and no this isn't sarcasm. Obama is going to have to work with the Reps even with the gains the Dems have made, and there is a potential for a relationship between Obama ahd he which could be mutually beneficial to both, and hopefully the nation at large.

About 4 million conservatives did vote for him by staying home.

I think we will know in January when Obama takes office.

Someone will rise up and head the opposition at that time.

As for the RNC: I think we need Newt. He is ideologically sound, popular within the party and has the kind of star power that will be needed to compete with Obama. If Newt calls up and says he wants to be on your Sunday morning show you take him up at that offer. If Michael Steel calls up you might pass depending on the subject and other guests that are out there.

I'd have to go with Sarah Palin. To me, she presents herself as the perfect Republican.

John McCain, period. Of course, he's totally abdicated his counsel (took the advice of his campaign team without discerning judgment), so really there's no influential Republican left. The GOP is a vast wasteland.

Same as it always is, the Lord and Savior Jesus Hussein Christ (well, what did you think the 'H' stood for?)
