Agreed. But the inside dope I got is that what the repubs really want Obama to do is to dress up in drag, move to Wasilla and get schooled by the Palin family on family values and how to run a Nation while shooting moose at night from the back of a speeding pickup truck, or at least how to shoot your hunting partner in the face and make the guy apologize for getting in your way.

Agreed about the books. G-d once spoke directly to me; it was akin to being electrocuted inside a subwoofer at a Who concert. (I hope that doesn't say something about the state of my soul.) No great wisdom was imparted, no command to build an ark, just what I needed to do to fix me. (And I hadn't even known I was broken.)

I still don't consider myself to be particularly religious. I'm not at all sure that religion and G-d have much in common, though I have no beef with those who think otherwise.

If nothing else, it would make a good reality TV show - if that's not too much of an oxymoron.

Meh, that's a personal experience that you for the most part kept personal. It was something that wasn't a driving agenda. Not going to say what happened to you wasn't real for you at all either. What I am going to say is that people that claim, "God spoke to me and told me to be in this position of power so that I may do all this STUFF and at the same time takes all your moniez!" are a either scammers or whack jobs.

Well they don't usually make statements exactly like that, but I hope you read the sarcasm inherent in what I'm trying to state. Anyone claiming something similar to above statement I think is pretty much off their rocker if they really believe that or just using tried and true lines to fleece the flock of sheeple people out there. Not sure which one Perry is, true believer or fleecer. I am inclined to believer of his own importance with his gutting of text and educational books, his pressure to make creationism taught as a science in schools, and other junk crap like that. Doesn't hurt it gets him extra votes with the sheeple. Still, anyone pushing for education in public schools of the sort where he tries to remove Jefferson from history books or puts creationism as a science to be taught in school is going to earn my disdain. The fact that he succeeded in some gutting of text books has already irked me off to him as actions speak louder that words.
 
perry was one of the kkk wannabe cheerleaders at a&m.

that's really all you need to know about him (other than that the only thing he's done as governor was try desperately to sell our highways to the spanish).

I agree completely. Creationism is something that can never be tested or disproven, which means it cannot be proven. Therefore it does not belong in a science book. Creationism, intelligent design and the like should be at the very most, small sidebars in science books, and preferably not even that. All text books should be protected from both the left's and the right's political viewpoints and agendas, as much as humanly possible.

I try not to judge people who say G-d told them to do something, as I can't see their souls. But if someone is trying for political power, I HAVE to judge them. Since anyone in political office is in a position of power, I shy away from those who claim their position comes straight from G-d. Their positions should stand on their own merits, even if directed by G-d. Especially if directed by G-d.
