Who is good at converting oven cook times to grill times?

If you're cooking with indirect heat, then you are basically using your grill as an oven. So, get the grill up to temp and it'll probably take nearly the same time. It's not a bad idea to have a meat thermometer either.

And if you need a timer to BBQ , well, that's not real BBG'ing.
...unless you use beer, which makes a great BBQ timer.

by use beer you mean drink till you are out, by then whatever was on the BBQ should be fully cooked, right?

more or less...

This is my beer timer strategy:

Sipping on a 12oz beer, cooking 16oz steak (~1inch thick)

rare: ~ 1 beer
med-rare: ~ 2 beers
medium: ~ 2.5 beers
med-well: ~ 3 beers
well done: ~ 4 beers
blackened: ~empty 6 pack
