if their sas is anything like their regular military then it is pretty obvious that they talk tough let someone else(U.S. sometimes Austrailians)do the fighting and dying for them then take the credit

I do believe SAS are better.
Generally, most of the European Special Group has been dealing with Terrorism and covert ops for a long time.
Hey, even Tom Clancy pay special tribute to the SAS.

and they had to go into the desert with enough food and water for 3 days and survive a week. They say guys biting off and drinking snakes blood and what not. They are pretty hardcore.

Dunno - That seems like a normal day in a Chinese market...

Riiight... my uncle knows a former SEAL who lost most of the use of his left arm after going on exercises in Georgia and getting bit by a 'gator. He could have shot it, but keeping with his ROE for the exercise (stealthy penetration), he killed it with his knife. His team didnt even call for a medivac. But, hey, I'm sure you eat snake every day...
BTW, its fairly obvious that the British official quoted has NEVER met any USA SF guys. I mean, milk shakes? Of the few (3-4) former SF guys that I know, given the choice between a milk shake and beer, well, the milk shake is going to melt. Besides, who eats pretzels with a milk shake? ;) Burger king doesnt even have pretzels!

<< Sh*t happens but they took down a couple hundred iraqis on the way... >>

BULLSHEET! They did not kill even one enemy soldier!...considering the source of that comment, why am I surprised he don't know sheet?

I cannot see a 'better' amoung the elite forces and I sincerely doubt ANY decision has ever been made on which one was 'better.'

What are you talking about? Last time I checked, UK has been involved in this war from the beginning. They had SAS inside Afganistan as soon as possible. In the Gulf War, UK Army was there fighting the Iraqis. And they had SAS deep in Iraq taking out Scuds.

I fail to see when UK has been "letting someone else do the fighting and dying for them then take the credit".

A comparison would be sort of pointless. You might be able to pit a few sets of forces against each other in a staged competition, but that woudln't tell you a whole lot. There are way too many variables here.

Some of the largest blunders ever reported for special forces are the ones where they had poor or non-existent intelligence. That doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the competance of the soldiers.

A weapons comparison could also be done, but that also isn't very indicative of the quality of the soldier.

Maybe we should do a study on human breeding and population required to produce "perfect" soldiers. I'm sure there is someone who could give us a likelihood number for a supremely athletic and intelligent person joining a special forces unit, given a known population and genetic make up.

What about those wars? In WW1 british were in the trenches dying. In WW2 they were involved right from the start. I fail to see how those wars prove anything.

I didnt say they werent fighting in those wars, now did I? I was attempting to explain how someone's intent in a post came across to me. I think what he was implying was that England was taking too much credit for the victory, when they got a whole lot of help from the Aussies, Americans, Russians (before you discredit the Russians, just think if Germany had taken out Russia as planned in operation Barborussa (sp?), and the situation the the Allies would have been in), etc. I would list the French, but they got their @sses handed to them, AGAIN .

Who knows? Most of these guys never talk. All you hear is rumours from the press. All I know is that the SAS prefers the M-16 as their weapon of choice and the G-3 if long range shooting is required, not the SA80, which is the standard rifle for British troops.

<< SF is a relatively new idea in the US, SAS created the Seals. >>

The SAS was created during WWII. The US had special forces during WWII as well (US Army Rangers, USMC Raiders, etc). Its not "new"

No, President Kennedy created the Navy Seals, which were called frogmen before. US Delta Force was created to be like the SAS hostage rescue teams, they also have to pass the same training regimes as the SAS.

More BS! The Seals were an offshoot of the US Navy's Underwater Demolition Team. The US 'wrote the book' on underwater demolition. The SAS did give much influence to the US Special Forces, but so did many other groups. SEAL does not equal Special Forces! Comparing the two is like asking who is best...Navy or Army....their missions are not the same! There is no comparison.

This comparison is bogus.

The term special forces maybe new for the US arm forces, but the men existed since the revolutionary war.

I think this argument is sort of pointless, as the Seals are probably better trained in water combat/demolitions and that sort of thing - SAS in terrorist situations and such. If one tried to do the others job they'd get owned, and vice versa.

delta!

i pick delta over any other special force any day. spetsnaz are bad ass yes, they are tougher, but their training and equipment isn't as good as delta.
