Who is better British SAS or American Special Forces?

I know compairing one group (SAS) to a number of groups (Navy Seals, Delta...etc) can be hard, but read and decide if this article is true.

I got this from the London Metro on Monday, November 26.

"SAS troops are keeping their positions secret from their US counterparts - because they dont trust them. The elite force blames American leaks for its casualties in the Gulf War. About 100 British special forces and 150 US undercover soldiers are in a race to capture Osama Bin Laden. The mistrust is one sign of the tension between American and British forces and comes as the Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Sir Michael Boyce said: 'American troops only go in if there are streetlamps and a Burger King.' Another Senior figure said: 'the SAS can live on toothpast for two months. American think they're suffering if they dont get daily milk shakes and pretzels.'"

What you all think? Do our special forces need "milk shakes" and "streetlamps" to complete the primary objective? Or are the Brits just jealous of our military superiority? Is there any truth to the first part about American leaks caused casualities in the Gulf?

*edit* Golf was a typo on my part... Gulf has been replaced.

I´v been hearing and reading that SAS is better overall, though both of them are extremely good.

Is that how the British spells the 'Gulf' war as the 'Golf' war? LOL

Sounds like BS to me... only goes in if there's streetlamps? If anything, the American forces have the advantage in total darkness because they have easy access to nightvision.

I am not sure how long the Navy Seals have been around so compairing track records from that long ago may not work.

I know absoultuly nothing about Australian SAS, so I cant say.

Somebody has been playing to much Counter-Strike, they dont use the gas mask all the time! On the subject of CS, what about the French & German Special Ops, I dont know much about them.

As I am sure you all know, a lot of what you hear about either comes from video games or movies.... I wonder if any AT'ers know "first hand" about this debate? If there was ill bet they are silently laughing as i am sure they know the real truth.....

Not realy, been weeks since I playd with my drugs ;) The gas masks though are a standard part of their uniform, mainly i was just stating that night vision is a common tool among special forces and not just used by the us special forces. French, I´v heard very.... nice things about them, whenever someone hijacks a plane in france these guys are called in and they usualy just storm the plane and kill all those responsible, and they are very good at it. The german special ops, not a clue either.

American think they're suffering if they dont get daily milk shakes and pretzels

They must be some of the best quotes posted here lately!

Or are the Brits just jealous of our military superiority?

Nah, we'd whip ya' any day of the week! :D

I didn't say they didn't... hell, i didn't even say the Navy Seals were better than the SAS did i? All i said was the article is BS if it claims the Americans only go in if there are streetlamps.

Mitzi: I hope you mean if our Navy Seals went up against your SAS. B/c That outcome I dont know, but if you mean our entire military vs. your military and you think you would whip us? You must be joking....

I was only kiddin' - notice the presence of the :D

I stand by my point - we'd still kick ya' - you see most of our streetlights don't work and Burger Kings are few and far between :D Now if you guys were powered by MacDonalds food we'd be SOL.

Also, the Navy Seals against the SAS would make a fantastic pay-per-view! Because the US and UK are closest allies I think the SAS would never come up against your seals - but I guess thats a good thing really.

Only people in the US seem to think that their special forces are better than the SAS - everything I've read elsewhere indicates that most people outside of the US who know anything about either group will say that the SAS are better.

Their track records are not made public. Hundreds of special forces operations are never made known to the public, except the bad ones.

Mitzi: as i figured, you got scared and backed down when threated by the furry of the American military
;)

Skoorb: I think it is because Americans have a terrible habbit of thinking we are ALWAYS the best at everything (which any smart person would know is not ALWAYS true).

Like I said before, only those people who are in the special forces (from any country) will know the truth.

hard to say but i'd probably give the edge to the SAS from everything i've heard about them. also, i'd guess it really depends on the mission and which branch of special forces you're talking about. of the elite special forces i would say it's probably a draw. btw, real special forces don't even need toothpaste to survive. I guess we'll find out who's the best when the hunt for osama bin hidin' is over.
