I'm ?am/was? a sorority sister. Never thought about it before, but what exactly is your status when a University totally shuts down the Greek system?

which one where oyu in? and at what school? you are still a member i think. the only time you stop being a member is when you deactivate or get kicked out, which never happens anymore

AKO at Alfred. We weren't a national, although we did exist for over 50 years. It just sucks royally that the Univ decided to pull the rung out from under all the greeks as they did.

What ever happened to all the houses that were built by the Greeks on top of the hill right before they shut down the Greek system?

haha the phrase at our school is "if you dont wanna go greek, go TKE"
They have a real weak system at our school and pretty much let anyone in

nice, ahahahah

bleh. TKE. they were always the biggest douche bags at my school.

I was in an honors frat for 3 years of college... I was president during my senior year 🙂 fun times.

Phi Delta Theta - Willamette '99. Joining the fraternity was one of the best decisions I ever made. It was a small campus with a small Greek system, so we were a very close-knit house and we had great times together. Never got hazed, never considered it "paying for friends" because we all decided how to use our money.
I have tons of great memories and am still close friends with many of my bros.

Phi Kappa Theta out of the University of Missouri - Rolla. If you live in Rolla and you're not in a fraternity, there is little-to-no life available for you. I guess if I had ATOT back then I could have substituted it for real friends...but no.

Ha! I was at Truman State.

Man...Rolla. You may have beer, but you have ZERO women.

Not just that there are not any good looking ones, but there are almost what, 4 guys for every 1 girl?
OUCH!
LISTEN HERE! I'll have you know there were a TON of women at Rolla, there just weren't very many of them. </tongue in cheeck>

Yeah, we imported women by having sororities trade with other sororities. For instance, a sorority from Southwest MO State would come to Rolla and their chapter in Rolla would go down there. Worked out well for us, but I felt sorry for the guys at SMS.

And for your information, the ratio was, by class:

2:1 Freshman Year
3:1 Sophomore Year
5:1 Junior Year
8:1 Senior, Super Senior, and Super^2 Senior Year

AVERAGED out to 4:1.

And we did have a soccer team, and those girls are ALWAYS hot!

Importing sororities though is a great deal! They are there to have fun, and then they are gone, and you don't have any awkward encounters on campus. Not that I condone that sort of thing...

I remember my girlfriend went down to hang out with I think the Phi Kaps actually her junior year. She was a Delta Zeta.

8:1 !!! Good gracious!

Rolla as a town can be no worse than Kirksville though!
Indeed the DZ's went down more than once. Or did I mean, CAME down. Whatever. Same difference. 😉

Yes, swapping sororities was really the only way to get a hot girl to come down, unless one of the guys had a sister come visit. It was awesome. Someone would ALWAYS sleep with someone else's sister when they came to visit. ALWAYS! And nobody cared. It's all so very wrong, and yet so very right.

No, Rolla is not worse than Kirksville. Kirksville is a HORRIBLE town. There's NOTHING there. At least in Rolla there's drinking. And Columbia is only 45 minutes away.

Small world. My Dad and one of my cousins went to UM-Rolla. My dad's side of the family is from that part of MO. (Desloge, Flat River, Farmington).

Wow...largest fraternity in the country and I am the first one to post...unless I missed it...

Tau Kappa Epsilon - Beta-Nu chapter @ Marshall University

Actually, SigEp is the largest national fraternity. TKE may be up there in numbers, but not quite as many brothers nationally as SigEp.

From the TKE National website:
As of May 31, 2003, 230,544 men have been initiated in the Fraternity.

And from the SigEp National website:
[*]Boasts the largest undergraduate membership, presently over 14,000, of any men?s collegiate fraternity for the last two decades.

[*]5,300-5,600 men choose to join annually (based upon the last 10 years).

[*]246,000 lifetime members rank SigEp in the top four among national fraternities despite founding 38th in chronological order of 64 national fraternities; presently boasts the largest living alumni population.

I was initiated into my chapter at SigEp in the fall of 2002, and have a grand chapter number just over 245,000, so that 246,000 is probably a low number.
