Who here will never purchase a GM product?

I currently own a 2003 Buick Regal. As far as JD Power's ratings go, it and the Century (basically same car) both racked up on reliability points just recently. I'm extremely happy with this car....it retailed at around $27k, but of course I bought it as a program car and saved over half of that. I think GM, in general makes decent vehicles, but they don't have the design innovation that the imports have... They also carry a lot of corporate overhead due to some stupid decisions GM made back in the 60s and 70s. (they pay health care to retired staff from that era still and we ultimately pay for it when we buy GM)

just wondering, cuz, if you own a boat, and its in the U.S. and a gas powered boat, 90% chance that engine, is a GM block.

and where did you get this little crap morsel of idiotic knowlege?
most boats I've ever seen around here are Mercurys & Evenrudes (for outboards) and Fords for Inboards... GM sucks ass...

They must be OLD inboards to be Fords. All I/O engines that are made by the big companies today are Chevy.
Volvo and Mercruiser are the two main brands, and they both use Chevy engines.

Me and all my family own GM vehicles exclusively, wouldn't drive anything else.

I've (quite possibly) owned at least one of every vehicle made at one time or another, but nothing has ever been as reliable as GM Products!

If you have never owned anything else then how can you compare?

No plans to ever purchase a GM and I don't own a boat.

I'd like to own a sailboat someday though. There are a variety of engine options for sailboats (Volvo, Yanmar, which I think is a GM engine, Perkins, Westerbeke and Universal come readily to mind). I don't mind that they might have a GM block. So long as it is reliable.

I have a Mercrusier 3.0 in my boat. Yup, it has a GM block. Yes it is perfectly reliable.

I'll probably stick with Mopar for the next car/truck purchases.

what kinda boat are you thinking about? most boats down here (ski and sport boats) have real engines down in the hull..(or the old outboard setup) ie: an off the shelf Ford 302 FI V8... they arnt made by anyone else.. so why would they be old?
yes there are plenty of Chevy bigblocks floating around in power boats out here too.. but us Ford guys just point and laugh =p

Hmm..... Then why do people all of a sudden drool over the new Hyundai's? They were POS from the moment to came to the states, why all of a sudden the change in attitude. Is it simply because it is not an american brand.

I go with what I like and what fits my price range. It just so happened that I bought a GMC Envoy because it was priced right, it drove great, and I liked the features. First GM product I've owned, and I've had it for about a year and half now. It works great (it's a big SUV, but I get around 20MPG- way better than the Jeeps I used to drive), and I haven't had a lick of trouble with it. In fact, they're giving me free oil changes and car washes, plus fixed a door problem through recall (they gave new a new Denali to drive while it was being fixed).

So, I don't subscribe to brand bashing without a reason, and I haven't had a reason with GM yet.

What kind of ski boats? The top brands are Nautique, Mastercraft, Malibu, Moomba, etc.

All of them use Mercruiser or Volvo, therefore they use Chevy engines. Neither Mercruiser nor Volvo use Ford engines.
If there is a company that still uses Fords, they aren't one of the bigger ones.

And you Ford guys laughing at Big Block Chevy engines is laughable. I guess that's just envy. 😉

But as far as I/O boats that use Ford engines, I don't think there are any anymore.

I just went to a boat show this past weekend, and there were only outboards of varying brands, and Chevy inboards.

Edit: Give me a brand that uses Ford engines.

Here's an interesting link I found.

Volvo claims that since both MerCruiser and Volvo use General Motors® engine blocks (as well as General Motors electronic fuel injection), there?s ?little discernible difference? between the engine lines

Interesting. Well it appears they use the block and FI only. It's hardly a 'GM motor'. Marine engines are not just a drop in from an automobile.

actually hyundai has REALLY stepped up their quality in past years. edmunds even rated the sonata as a better vehicle than the honda accord and toyota camry. THAT's how much improvement they've made.

as far as brand loyalty goes, i don't have any particular one(though yes, i like DCX and Audi 😀). i'd like to *try* and buy domestic when the time comes, but if they don't offer exactly what i want, there's no point in buying from them. it's all about what YOU want as the buyer. sadly, domestic MFR's haven't offered compelling vehicles until the past few years with the new mustang, fusion, 300/charger/magnum, and all the other new vehicle designs.

Internals meaning the pistons, rods and crank? Big, hot, sh1t. The FI is GM apparently. A marine engine has very specific ancillaries.

Okay, that means the whole engine is GM, if the FI is GM also.
It was stated that they just used a GM block, which implies all the internals are aftermarket...which is false.
Every bit of that engine is GM.
They are small block Chevys. 305's, 350's, and 383's.
Big blocks are the new 496's. They used to be 454's.
All Chevrolet, the best V-8 engines ever made, at least in the USA.
No Ford engines are used in any boats that I know of today.
There might be some 10-year-old boats with Ford engines out there.
