Who Here Has Played Football?

I was built for football. Back in highschool I was 6'4" 300 lbs, took up weightlifting and was alway bugged by the football coach to play for him but couldnt because when I went to try out in middle school and went for a physical the doc told me I had (forgive me spelling) scoleosis (curve of the spine) so bad one hit would paralize me from the waste down. So I never played but took up the weight lifting (benched over 300 and could leg press over 800 hence why the coach bugged me all the time). I was a walking wall back in the day and still sort of am.

About 5 years ago for a job with the R&R I had to take a complete physical with xrays and showed I NEVER had curve of the spine and I about crapped my paints. All these years I could of played football and went to college and may have been a professional player and didnt because one quack dock said I couldnt play ever my entire life.
This will forever haunt me for the rest of my life thanks to that doctor and taking the physical.

I played football my sophmore year of HS. Until that point I had wrestled only and when I went to my first few games, I hated it. Too much blame bull$hit going on. In wrestling if you fail, you blame yourself. In football, it seemed, you blamed everyone BUT yourself for failing unless it was an open field tackle or something. QB crying about the RB fumbling. CB crying about the safety, etc. I couldn't stand it.

The other problem I had was the coach didn't like me because I was the FNG on the squad. It was my first time playing organized football, so I didn't quite fit in. It didn't help that the SOB made me a wide receiver despite the fact that I was only 5'7" and weighed about 135 pounds. I did run a 4.4 sec 40 though, so I was fast. Should have played DB of some kind probably.

4.4 is bogus. BTW.

i dont think a lot of NFLers can even run a 4.4.

No, it is possible, alot of people I played with could run around there. 4.3-4.6 I never could mind you, but I know some people i played with who can.

yeah there were a few on my team that ran a 4.45 and the quickest a 4.3

I ran a 4.7
my stats for the weightroom my senrior year, I got iron chief also at the end of the year

Squat: 510SL
Powerclean: 410SL
Bench: 325 SL

but it was never like that on my team...anyone who wasnt a team player was hated and usually quit....and the scrubbs as someone said were cut...none of that BS hanging around not doing anything just so you can say you played...

Sue the doctor for lost benefits and potential NFL pay. 😉

Never played on a team - it interfered with marching band! 😀
I did play quite a bit of recreational football. The Saturday marching band vs. football players game in the park was one of the best fall activities to look forward to. The band geeks could actually compete with the actual football players surprisingly well.

4 years in high school. Started off as a wide receiver/safety and by junior year was a tight end/linebacker. Then played division 1-AA ball at UConn as a safety. Didn't get a whole of field time as a safety though, mostly I just played special teams covering kicks and punts. In HS I was big enough to play linebacker and fast enough to play safety. In D1 college ball it was backwards, I was only big enough to play safety and fast enough to play offensive line. Not a combo that gets you on the cover of Sports Illustrated. It's amazing the jump there is from HS ball to college ball. In high school I was big and fast, in college I was small and slow.

Played Jr. High and all through High School. I was playing linebacker and tightend my Junior year when the coaches had a brainstorm the week before the first game and decided I'd make a really good center since we didn't have enough good offensive lineman....All 6'2 175lbs of me. I ended up starting at center for two years and picked up 1st Team South Texas, District, and City honors. Unfortunately, that killed my dream of playing college ball at Alabama since nobody was going to be interested in sub 200lb offensive lineman.

Great time though. I really miss being able to legally cream the crap out of somebody.

I play football. My HS (Killian HS, Florida) team was state champions, but I didn't start or anything 🙁. almost, no play time.

tackle?!? :Q

I was the goalkeeper for my HS soccer team, but the football coach was always bugging me about trying out for K, P, CB, S, or WR. I probably would have made for an undersized WR, CB, or S at 5' 9", 165, but I had decent speed and could catch. I'm glad I stuck with soccer though.....our football team was horrible.

That sucks. I think I would have gotten a 2nd opinion to confirm what the 1st doctor said.

Sure!

If we had enough people, we would even play with linesmen/blockers instead of the traditional "5-mississippi rush!" Those were rough games.

In hindsight it's surprising no one ever got hurt, although since we all had to go to football games and band competitions the following week so, we weren't pounding each other the way you would in a "real" game.

You kill me on the bench lol, When I got around 300 I tore my rotary cuff, and havnt been able to push past 200 since than. 🙁

I played from 7th grade through 12th. Absolutely the best time of my life. Made some of the best friendships and learned some great life lessons about teamwork and character.

I went to a small private school in North Carolina, however, our coach was incredible, and year after year we competed with the biggest public schools in the region. We won states my freshman, sophomore, and junior years, losing in the championship game my senior year after our starting QB went down in the semifinals.

I played DT/LT sophomore and junior year at 230, making all state at both positions my junior year. Then, summer before senior year, I decided I was tired of being a huge lineman, and I lost 50lbs - down to 180 at the beginning of senior year.

My coach, whom I hadn't seen all summer, was pissed when his all state LT/DT came back 50lbs lighter. I moved inside to guard, where I did a lot of pulling for traps/waggle passes. By losing the weight, I got a lot faster, which allowed me to hook block linebackers on toss sweeps. My speed also really helped at DT/DE, I doubled my sack total from the previous year. Made all state on both sides of the ball again my senior year.

I got roster spots from some D3 schools and probably could have walked on at a few DI schools, but I decided I didn't want to play in college, not to mention I would have had to gotten back up to 230 or beyond, something I wasn't really keen to do.

Anyway, in short, I loved football, the lights, the fans, the team, the friends.

Here's a pic of me from Junior year, at 230lbs

I played football in Junior High,Senior High and in College but quit after I blew my knee out. I liked hockey better because you could beat the crap out of people and get away with it 😉

You definitely have never played on the line or the defensive front 7.
