Sure... if you're a redneck or from texas.

god you seriously know nothing.

go to a GOOD restaurant in LA and a quarter of the people in there will be wearing nice jeans + button up + jacket

No, they really dont.

Having said that, I honestly didnt even know they made jeans that cost $200+. Thats a lot of money for a pair of jeans. I'm going to have to go see if I can find a pair like that.

Ok, with that edit I think you proved my point.

Now you know. Go to any decent restaurant with an average crowd of professionals and you'll see them. Nice jeans go very well with a jacket, nice shoes, nice shirt, etc.

And this is coming from a guy that knows nothing about fashion and cares even less. I wear flip-flops with my jeans, because it's comfortable and I can. I'm just saying what can be done and what often is done. A great pair of jeans has replaced the niche of fashion where chinos used to so firmly sit.

I find it interesting that because I choose not to spend 200 on jeans, or that in fact I havent even seen jeans in this price range you would assume I know nothing about fashion.
Which only goes to show how ignorant you really are about fashion.

Carry on with your jeans and jackets. 🙂

No doubt. Hell, I've seen the same in every city I've ever visited, including my hometown of Tulsa, OK. It's not like this is some phenomenon isolated only to the trendiest restaurants in only the most fashionably progressive cities. I live in the 'burbs of Atlanta, and the restaurants, pubs, etc. here are filled with it.

I'll be sure to let everyone know they're rednecks.

Yeah, those who know they have to look "dressed up" and dont want to put any effort into doing so.

Its the same as the guy who shows up to an interview with dress clthes that dont fit, shirts too long, baggy, sloppily tied tie, shrit not tucked in....Whatever, take your pick.

You think its "fashionable" or "dressy", but frankly its not. The only reason its even done is because its common place. Well, just because half the kids I see these days have their ass hangin out of thier pants doesnt mean I will do it nor is it "fashionable" to do so.

Same up here. Even the most expensive restaurants will have guys and girls wearing jeans.

Uhh, I already said I don't care about fashion. I just care about quality. I buy what I like independent of what other people tell me is fashionable.

And sorry, your little ad hominem isn't going to somehow persuade me that you're correct, that everyone else is wrong and that you're knowledgeable about fashion.

Carry on with your jeans and jackets. 🙂

I'll happily do so.

Sorry dude, it's standard practice in LA. Yes, I know LA is more casual than most other states, and quite frankly I don't give a fuck.

Ehh....I bought a few 100$ pairs, but had enough coupons and an employee discount to get them for about $40.

I don't make enough money to buy the $200 jeans, but it seems like there is a definite quality difference between the cheap and the expensive ones.

Once again, reality doesn't fit with your ideas. Where are you NOT seeing this? Even restaurants like Alinea, Per Se, REDD, etc. have floors filled with people in jeans. My only conclusion is that you simply haven't been out enough to see it.

So, you know what's fashionable I take it? Can you please let everyone know so we can stop committing these fashion faux pas?

😀

now that I think about it you might be right they do have a levi's section tucked into the back of the store. But again ......people in this thread likely not going to a department store for their cheap jeans.

I dont have a problem with the practice. Hell I do jeans and button downs every Friday.

But lets not lie to ourselves about it being some high end fashionable statement.

I own two pair of jeans that retail for $200+, I bought them at about 80% off. Sure, they're nice. They are a little thicker and of higher quality than my other jeans, but, honestly, I prefer the jeans I usually buy from Target. $20 bucks, they look fantastic, they fit perfectly and when they wear out they're cheap to replace.

I'm not. I don't think Descartes is. I think you're the only person who is inferring such.

I do it because it's comfortable and I don't look like a bum when I eat at a nice restaurant. I don't WANT to dress all formal and shit when I go out to eat.

Its not where I live.

I wont bother with who I know because frankly you wouldnt even believe it. You would say I'mlying. So thats fine. Rather then try to impress or convince you otherwise let me simply assure you, those at the top and old money does NOT run around in jeans and jackets.

Old Money is usually synonymous with words like conservative, stiff , stale and well OLD FASHIONED. Never knew they were the pinnacle of fashion.
